Critics plan rival conference to World Meeting of Families

Parallel conference will feature Bishop Athanasius Schneider and Cardinal Raymond Burke

Critics of the Vatican-backed World Meeting of Families have announced a parallel conference to be held at the same time.

The World Meeting of Families is set to be held in Dublin in August, and the alternative series, the Conference of Catholic Families, will be held in nearby Ballsbridge.

The National Catholic Register says the two-day conference, sponsored by the Lumen Fidei Institute, will centre around Pope Pius XI’s 1930 encyclical Casti Connubii, addressing the topics of marriage, procreation and conception. Speakers include Fr Thomas Weinandy, a member of the Vatican’s International Theological Commission; Dr Robert Royal, founder and president of the Faith & Reason Institute; and John Smeaton, director of Britain’s Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC).

Also speaking are Bishop Athanasius Schneider, pro-life philosopher Professor Stéphane Mercier, and Dr Gerard van den Aardweg, a psychologist and psychoanalyst. Cardinal Raymond Burke will be present through a live video feed.

The World Meeting of Families, the Vatican-sponsored conference, is centred around Pope Francis’s apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia. The Pope will speak as will Jesuit Fr James Martin. Fr Martin’s speech is called “Exploring how parishes can support those families with members who identify as LGBTI+”.

While the two conferences are scheduled for the same time, the leaders of the Conference of Catholic Families said their goal is not to compete but rather to help explain the church’s views on marriage and family.

  1. I’m sure this isn’t heresy or schisim, but it’s jolly well insubordination.

    • bohemond says:

C&H Where you venerate tolerance , I venerate Truth the Divine Truth. Which is in complete opposition to spirit of the Age, the spirit of Tolerance, Diversity and Sodomy. which you fully embrace

      • B..Glad you are so pious .You make a lot of assumptions about me.

        • bohemond says:

Then prove me wrong, I find most many if not all homosexuals to be left leaning in all aspects. The regard tolerance as a cardinal virtue, and the Truth subjective, where we cannot make judgments about anything or anyone. And please don’t give me the “judge not lest ye be judge” Our Lord was referring to the condition of persons soul, yes actions can be judge. Plus liberals use that piece of scripture as a moral cop out , its become really tiresome. Liberals quoting scripture are like foxes in the hen house

          • BOHEMOND …How many of us do you know well enough to make that call?

          • Bohemond says:

..Basic observation…you will all be having your shame parades shortly,,, tell me any of THEM are not flaming leftist.

    • Ann Malley says:

The Cardinals have a duty before God to teach clearly. I’ve no doubt the Pharisees believed Our Lord to be insubordinate as well.

  2. Kristin says:

The Vatican sponsored event has been hijacked by those who intend to change Church teachings on sexual morality. Homosexualists want same sex unions normalized – impossible – and they will twist truth to fit their purposes. Bravo to Cardinal Burke and Bishop Schneider for seeing through the rhetoric and holding a conference that celebrates Church teachings!

  3. Anonymous says:

Is the Pope a [voluntary] participant in the hijacking?

Interesting. If the liberals had organized a rival conference during St. Pope John Paul II’s reign, Cardinal Burke et al would undoubtedly been very critical.

  5. St. Christopher says:

Makes the SSPX look like heroes (although they do need to come within the Church). However, expect great push-back as no totalitarian institution will tolerate perceived competition, in any form (and regardless how it is explained). You have the right to do this, of course, but you will be attacked for it.

The present “Vatican” is simply trying to put the finishing touches on Chapter One of its new volume, “Creation of a NewCatholicChurch.” These vile men don’t think much of God’s commandments, or anything that seems “Medieval.” They want a Church of Man. Francis needs to heed the Holy Ghost and fight back.

    • Ann Malley says:

“…although they do need to come within the Church.”

They are in the Church, St. Christopher. What’s outside the Church is the “irregular” situation in which Catholic doctrine is now condemned from the Vatican. This is one reason why the “attack” on those perceived to look like heroes for merely cleaving to Catholic teaching is so curious.

The crisis in the Church didn’t begin with Francis.

      • St. Christopher says:

“Ann Malley”: Thank you for the clarification. Perhaps the SSPX cannot come within the “institutional” Church as this point, although they are very much needed.

You are also correct that Church abuses and crises did not begin with Francis. However, Francis has taken further steps to “legalize” new doctrine within the guise of “pastoral” discipline; that is what Ch. 8 of “Amoris Laetitae” is all about. In this way, Francis is uniquely bad as a Pope. Not sure about the immortality of the soul? Of the existence of Hell? Pretty bold stuff from Francis.

        • Anonymous says:

The SSPX does not want to be in the Church. Do not be misled. They have refused to rejoin the Church on numerous occasions. They are suspended priests that have been granted some faculties by Pope Francis. All the SSPX priests are in mortal sin. It is not OK to attend their chapels.
Catholic doctrine is NOT condemned from the Vatican. Do not be misled. Stop reading the anti-Catholic press.

    LGBTI+ ???
How parishes can support families with members who identify as LGBTI+ ?
Has Father Martin gone down the 63 genders and 16 sexual orientations road?
Or is the Q culturally inappropriate in Ireland?
Do intersex people like being lumped in with this? They have physical and chromosomal abnormalities. Do parents who have a child born with these birth defects really need their parish informed and involved in this?
Do they really want their child’s genitals discussed at Church?

  7. Anonymous, you raise some very good points. These kinds of things used to be handled discretely with the child being protected from prying eyes. Now all the blabber mouths want them exposed to all their fellow students in the shower, in the locker rooms, etc..Even some of the parents have exposed their own children’s problems to the public eye.. I call it abuse.
