Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc., is a non-profit legal services provider which represents, educates and finds pro bono counsel for immigrants in Immigration Court removal proceedings. Esperanza provides services to immigrants who are in detention, and their families including adults in the custody of Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), adults in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, children in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), and the families of children who are/were in ORR custody.
Esperanza seeks a 50% part-time attorney in its Youth Project to provide legal education services to the families of children who are in Removal Proceedings. The position is based at Esperanza’s Los Angeles office but may require frequent travel to the Los Angeles Immigration Court, located approximately 2 miles from our office.
This attorney will provide large group “Know Your Rights” presentations to children in removal proceedings and their families. Furthermore, he/she will provide individual screenings/intakes to those families who want it and any follow-up services necessary. He/she will assist in maintaining Esperanza’s relationship with the Immigration Court and will also be responsible for some data entry and administrative tasks associated with the position. The position requires working closely with the entire Esperanza LOPC team to distribute work, creatively problem-solve, and capture qualitative and quantitative data.
