The forbidden word Christmas

Annual Naughty or Nice list

The following appeared November 27 on LifeSiteNews.com.

Wal-Mart, Belk, Lowe’s and Hobby Lobby top the list of Christmas friendly stores put out by the American Family Association in its Naughty or Nice List for 2012.  Those in the ‘companies against Christmas’ list include GAP and Old Navy stores as well as Staples, Radio Shack and Foot Locker.

The“naughty” list singles out companies that avoid, ban, or use the term Christmas in their advertising.

AFA reviewed up to four areas to determine if a company was Christmas-friendly in their advertising: print media (newspaper inserts), broadcast media (radio/television), website and/or personal visits to the store. If a company’s ad has references to items associated with Christmas (trees, wreaths, lights, etc.), it was considered as an attempt to reach Christmas shoppers.

If a company has items associated with Christmas, but did not use the word Christmas, then the company is considered as censoring Christmas.

The list is regularly updated. To report on a company, send your detailed report to christmas@afa.net.

I really like AFA, God bless them for all the work they do. I will boycott all the stores that are against Christmas, why shop with them when they have no respect for my tradition in Christmas.

    • Abeca Christian says:

My local Safeway actually decorated nice for Christmas, I think it depends on the manager running it. Even the cashier wished me a Merry Christmas in the past few years…also this year the shopping center where that Safeway is at, the whole mall had a Christmas celebration to start off the shopping season, so I guess we are blessed that not all Vons are bad.

  2. Father Karl says:

In December, 2011, after 9-11, I went to purchase stamps at the post office. The clerk would not answer me with the word “Christmas” when I wished her a merry one. She replied ” Happy Kawanza “to the person ahead of me, and I also noticed the Moslem holiday stamps were more proudly promoted than Christmas stamps. What is happening to society is a full scale attack on Christianity here in America. The people are like frogs placed in a pot of slowly warming water. The frogs will not realize they are being cooked and killed until it is too late. Our society and western civilization are dying. The Soviet leader when he visited us in the 50′s said, WE WILL BURY YOU! This demonic man’s words are coming true. America is rottng from the inside. Christian morals and practices are being replaced by pagan immoral behavior, and the majority of Americans are in favor of it. We are like ancient Rome, caring only about cereal and circus, while everything else is being destroyed. No longer can we say, GOD BLESS AMERICA, but instead say, MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON AMERICA.

    • I just ran out of Madonna and Child US Postage stamps from last year; I use them all year round.

      • What a Great Idea! We should all purchase as many of the Christmas Stamps as we can afford…then use them all year long.

Perhaps then the message of Christmas and the Birth of Jesus will spread around the world.

      • That is a great ideas, Skai.

    • Hopefully the evil ones will succeed only in burying the rot. But in any case the faithful shall rise again with Jesus on the last day. I wonder if the rot helps the saints in their sanctification efforts like it helps plants and trees to grow strong and pleasing to the Lord. Many crops that nurish us do really well when fed pig swill … sorry about my new found parallelism, and I’m not sure it makes for good meditation but it’s sort of analogous. Come to think about it, many Catholics are not only lukewarm but pretty much spiritual vegetables … maybe a dose of what the world hands out will at some point get their attention and help them warm up to God, and become like flowers swaying in the sun.

  3. I say check back December 26…the second day of Christmas. Then you will see which companies truly are for Christmas…Is putting up stuff when it is not Christmas, then taking it down when it is Christmas “For Christmas”?

  4. Thanks! I was waiting for this list juat to make certain I am supporting businesses that like those of us with green to spend on CHRISTMAS.

  5. Hoehn Motors (several dealerships), Carlsbad CA, is family-friendly, employees work only a six-hour day so that they can spend time with their families. Mr. Hoehn gave generously to Proposition 8 (marriage is between only one man and one woman). Homosexual groups boycotted his various businesses, which didn’t seem to hurt him. I won’t go to any other dealer to buy cars or for repairs.

    • Abeca Christian says:

Hoehn in Carlsbad, good to know. God bless them in abundance.

    • Do not live in CA or Carlsbad (It really seems like name should be changed to CarlsGOOD!

Keep on passing the word about this car dealership that lets employees work only 6 hours a day to permit more time at home with their families.

If all companies did this, all unemployment in the U.S. would be eliminated!

Maybe a little less pay, but not much less in Take Home Pay!

  6. I remember as a kid in Catholic school selling Holy Childhood Christmas Seals stamps with the slogan “Keep Christ in Christmas”…..and that was 50 years ago. Best strategy is to continue to show Christian love and compassion, volunteer to help the poor, wish everyone a Merry Christmas, etc. Polls show 2/3 of Americans prefer Merry Christmas….let’s shown `em who we are by how we celebrate the Season.

    • Kenneth M. Fisher says:

You also properly celebrate the Birth of Christ by picking just who you purchase from and where the products come from. If need be, make your own decorations rather than help pay for more Chinese Communist Military.

If need be, find used gifts that are in good shape, at least then the money does not go to Communist China or other enemies.

God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
      Kenneth M. Fisher

      • Keneth M Fisher:

The world needs more like you!

The Christians of the World must stand together and begn to speak out With Strong Voices and Letters to the Editor to Demand RESPECT for OUR CHRISTIAN (Catholic) RELIGIONS!

Too much is wasted on the Phoney Star Entertainers and their dispicable antics…Drugs and Drunkenness, Divorces, etc. They are the real White Trash! The sponsors are also the ADVERTISERS and many of their products have FREE 1-800 phone numbers that you can call and express your distain for their support of the debauchery they are supporting with their advertising, and that you WILL STOP PURCHASING THEIR PRODUCTS Unless they stop advertising in Publications and TV that continue to produce and promote the :Unsavory Life Styles.

You can do the same, telling the 1-800 Number that you Demand that they Wish you a Very Merry Christmas at Christmas time….NOT Happy Holidays!

Pass this message on to all of your relatives, friends and fellow workers and Phone in Radio Shows, Letters to the Editors of Newspapers and Magazines, and speciall your area STORES.

        MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
        PEACE ON EARTH!

  7. Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary at midnight in Bethlehem in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, oh my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desire, through the merits of our Savior Jesus Christ and of His Blessed Mother. To be prayed 15 times a day beginning on the feast of St. Andrew (Nov. 30) and ending on Christmas.

    • Kenneth M. Fisher says:

      k,

Thanks, it is on my Calendar, now if only I can remember!

God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
      Kenneth M. Fisher

  8. Good to see Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s on the list. But WalMart is hostile to guns and ammo, so guess they would disarm Santa and thus allow Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer be ambushed.

  9. John Cullen says:

Some time ago, perhaps 5-10 years ago, Target forbade the Salvation Army from taking up collections outside their stores at Christmastime. The reason given was that they do not allow any soliciting outside their stores. (They could have made an exception.)
Also, around the same time they were selling Che Guevara t-shirts.
I have not shopped at Target since then.

    • John Cullen:

Target is coming to Canada in 2013, having purchased the Zellers chain of stores.

Will be watching to see what they do here.

Happy to see that you are a very determined man. Keep passing the work around.

    • Maryanne Leonard says:

That’s funny that you say Target won’t allow any soliciting outside their stores. Every single time I have ever gone to Target in Newbury Park there has always been someone soliciting for homeless people (supposedly), not through a recognized charity, and making a snide comment like “Have a nice day, lady” in a tone that sounds like they are condemning you for choosing not to put money into their bucket. I’m not sure that the money goes beyond the solicitor, and the solicitor solicits people both coming into and going out of Target’s doors. I rarely shop there, but that is not why. It happens at Whole Foods, the post office parking lot, McDonald’s, Do It Center, etc., etc., too, and is not easy to dodge. I know of one homeless man who bragged he made over $40,000 a year tax free begging. He talked about his stocks every single morning with a group of old retired investors who enjoyed his crazy stories from living on the edge and laughed with him over how he stiffed the government. Of course, that means the taxpayers, which means you and me, not to mention the old fogeys. Wonder what Jesus thinks of this kind of beggar . . . are we to give him money? I don’t, but I used to, before I heard him bragging and laughing with his friends.

  10. Ted at North says:

Anyone notice that Chick-Fil-A is absent from the list? That’s because they SHOULD be in the red column, or yellow at the very best. Their corporate advertising does not mention Christmas. In fact, I saw an ad on tv for their special HOLIDAY shake. Some individual locations may do Christmas things, but apparently that is not corporate policy. So, AFA is glad to stand behind Chick-Fil-A for the marriage thing. But when Chick-Fil-A violates AFA’s Christmas standard, they remain quiet.

    • Abeca Christian says:

Ted why not write to AFA? Find out what they say and their logic? I tend to disagree with you because my local Chick Fil A celebrates Christmas…so I don’t know.

      • Abeca Christian says:

Ted Holiday shake is probably more acceptable than a holiday tree. There is no such thing as a holiday tree but there can be such a thing as a holiday shake. I guess..???
