Public schools safer than Catholic ones

Fremont schools allow parents to opt out of gay play

Playwright Loughrey

Catholic high schools in California continue to host presentations of the condom-promoting play Secrets. The play is a promotion of the Kaiser Educational Theater program. It was written by homosexualist dramatist Patricia Loughery. Performance of the play seems to have become an annual ritual in some Catholic high schools, particularly in the archdiocese of San Francisco.

In the 2012-2013 autumn and winter season, according to the Kaiser Educational Theater calendar, Secrets was performed at San Jose’s Notre Dame high school on November 6, and at San Francisco’s Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory high school on November 19, and is scheduled to be performed at San Francisco’s St. Ignatius College Preparatory high school on February 12, 2013.

While the Kaiser Permanente informational webpage for Secrets notes that abstinence is the only safe option, Secrets offers condom usage as an acceptable practice, in violation of the teaching of the Catholic Church.

Beginning in 2009 CalCatholic has been drawing attention to the schools hosting the anti-Catholic play. On October 13, 2009, we reported “The play depicts a teenager who is HIV positive. Some content in Secrets was considered, by the Fremont, California Unified School District, to be sufficiently graphic to require that a permission slip be signed by parents before their child would be allowed to see it.” We reported Secrets was scheduled to be performed at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory high school, Sacred Heart high school in Atherton, Mercy high school in Burlingame, and at St. Ignatius College Preparatory high school in San Francisco. The article also noted that the webpage of St. Ignatius indicated that performance of Secrets would be an annual event at the school.

On April 16, 2012, CalCatholic published a follow-up article. In the 2011-2012 winter season, performances of Secrets were down to only two schools in the archdiocese of San Francisco: Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep and St. Ignatius. But the web calendar of Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep stressed that attendance at the play was “Mandatory for ALL Freshman.”

The policy of mandatory attendance at a Catholic school contrasts with the policy of the public Fremont Unified School District. Fremont has published an extensive online imformational brochure for parents about Secrets. It includes a general description, describes certain scenes, and includes an opt-out form, should parents not want their children exposed to the play. While Sacred Heart’s web calendar listing for the most recent performance of Secrets no longer insisted that freshman attendance was mandatory, neither did they indicate that a parental “opt-out” was available.

Secrets was written by Patricia Loughery. A number of her other plays (Dear Harvey about homosexual San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk or The Daddy Machine about a girl with two lesbian mothers) seek to normalize homosexuality. From 2006-2011 Loughery coordinated the Queer Theatre — Taking Center Stage program of at San Diego’s Diversionary Theatre.

  1. Note I faxed to the Archbishop:

Archbishop Cordileone, how could you allow your schools to stage a homosexualist play which promotes the use of condoms? How could you allow schools under your charge and care and direction to make it MANDATORY that young 13-14 year olds be forced to watch said play? I am referring to the play “Secrets.” The play is a promotion of the Kaiser Educational Theater program and it was written by homosexualist dramatist Patricia Loughery.

In the 2011-2012 winter season, performances of Secrets are scheduled at two “Catholic” schools in the archdiocese of San Francisco: Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep and St. Ignatius. The web calendar of Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep stressed that attendance at the play was “Mandatory for ALL Freshmen.” Freshmen are typically 13-14 years old and it is they to whom you are promoting sin.

You are known for your adherence to the magisterium and your love of holy Mother Church and your love of souls. Correct this situation if all of that is true. Please do not be like your predecessor!

What is the FAX number to the archdiocese ? I also would like to bring this matter to the attention of the new archbishop. He may not be aware of this since he just came on the job barely a month ago. Give him some time, I am certain a lot of changes will be made under his administration.

    • Terrific letter Gabriel! God bless you! Let us pray that Bishop Cordileone will take immediate action to stop this. You are right about the performance of Secrets. This play was shown a few years ago at one Catholic grammar school in Orange County. There might have been more. The people who came to put on the performance brought sets of sexually suggestive role playing cards for students that were incredibly diabolical. The topics were varied but they clearly showed the clear intent to corrupt young minds and indoctrinate children on topics of pre marital sex, lesbianism and homosexuality. There were also role play cards to act out scenes such as discovering who is not a virgin anymore. Spying on habits of your parents. Talking with friends who have a brother who has just committed suicide. Noticing that a boy in class has his zipper down and how to handle walking up to tell him.

When Father John Hardon came to Los Angeles on a fact finding mission, he asked to have evidence of the corruption taking place within the Church and the Catholic schools so he could bring this evidence back to the Vatican. Father John Hardon was given a copy of the role playing cards from the play Secrets.

Father Hardon had an assistant who arranged this meeting and the assistant asked to see the cards before they were given to Father. Hardon. I will never forget the reaction of this assistant when having read only a few of the many role playing cards. This assistant, a very strong and educated Catholic individual, just broke down and started to cry saying, “What have they done to our children?”

        Catherine,

What if anything was done about this scandal within Brown’s Diocese?

God bless, yours in Their Hearts,

    • Gabriel, thank you.

  2. Larry from RI says:

Mandatory attendence for “secrets” but not for “for Greater Glory”.
Lets have more Church Militant and less Church Milquetoast!!!!

  3. To repair Catholic education; to restore its truth and dignity, as founded on a Eucharistic Christ, it will require mass conversions of teaching and administrative staff, or mass firings and replacements by leadership. Many of us Catholics who do not put our children in “Catholic” schools for fear of heresy and corruption see little evidence of either happening.

  4. One need’s to understand that Bishop Cordileone has inherited a very liberal infrastructure compliments of previous Bisops in San Fran, it will take considerable time to clean house of these heretics which include Priests and other so called Catholic leaders. It seems much of the West Coast and Southern Nevada have Mahoney type Bishops who will tolerate the liberal agenda’s, through our daily prayers we can help make a difference. MGB

    • Kenneth M. Fisher says:

      Papa,

This sicko play is a very good place for Archbishop Cordileone to start the cleanup!

The big question is will he. If he does not do so, he may very well lose his eternal soul for the sin of Omission!

God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
      Kenneth M. Fisher

  5. California Teacher says:

Kaiser also runs an equally odious play for middle school students (or did run as of 2 yrs ago and likely still do). It’s titled, Nightmare on Puberty Street.

Catholic parents of public school students need to be aware of this and given guidelines by the parish/diocese as how to best object. Most public school systems do have means of opting out if someone is willing to ferret out the details. As for Catholic schools, they’re hopeless.

  6. Anton L. Seidl says:

Catholic schools ceased being Catholic many years ago. Right after Vatican Two opened the doors to the temple to let all the fresh air come in. “Catholic education” is a joke. In my grandchildren’s secular high school I hear more sacred choir music than in my parish church. And that is NO joke!
