Mass times Meets Sundays at 10:15 a.m. for morning prayer; lasts about 40 minutes. Attend the St. Margaret’s Mass at 8:30 a.m. before the service, or the 11 a.m. Mass directly afterward.
Confessions Confessions are held in St. Margaret’s 30 minutes before Sunday Masses.
Names of priests St. Augustine is currently served by two former Anglican priests, George Ortiz-Guzman and Dennie Eisele. Both hope to be ordained into the Roman Catholic priesthood later this year. Currently, Father Cávana Wallace, St. Margaret’s pastor, is the group’s spiritual director. Ortiz- Guzman is a former navy corpsman and military chaplain, ordained to the Anglican priesthood in 1987. Additional observations The communities of St. Augustine of Canterbury, which serves the Oceanside/Carlsbad area, and Blessed John Henry Newman, which serves Orange County, were received into full communion with the Catholic Church on July 3. They are now part of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter. On January 1, 2012, Pope Benedict established the ordinariate for groups of Anglicans in the United States desiring full communion with the Catholic Church (for additional information, visit http://www.usordinariate.com/). Ortiz-Guzman, who served as pastor of St. Augustine, is hoping to be ordained a Roman Catholic priest on December 30. His community has about 50 members, 38 of which were received into full communion on July 3 (the others are discerning if they wish to enter). Morning prayer is held in the Blessed Sacrament chapel, which seats about 25. The chapel is behind the altar and is separated by a screen from the main church.

One of the late Bishop Austin Vaughan’s friends was an Episcopal Bishop by the name of Pope. I understand that Bishop Pope came home before he died as well. Bishop Vaughan told me how much of a good and holy man then Bishop Pope was. I do believe he was ordained into the Sacred Priesthood as well.

It is such a joy to read about the ordained Episcopal priests becoming ordained Catholic priests in our time. The one married, former Anglican priest I know is a great blessing to our Church, and of course Catholicism is the greatest blessing that can be bestowed upon one in our lifetimes. I welcome the Protestant priests and pastors who wish to come home with a heart full of joy and celebrate this deeply moving transition to our faith.
