Transgendered teacher not the only problem at Mercy

Cal Catholic exclusive - Pervasive trend at San Francisco high school
Stein-Bodenheimer from World Religion News

Stein-Bodenheimer lectured on “Queer Subtexts” in Feb. (from World Religion News)

On May 13, 2016, CalCatholic posted an article headlined “San Francisco Catholic school nuns: we’re ok with trans teacher.” The post was a reprint of a celebratory May 12 article in the San Francisco Chronicle headlined “San Francisco Catholic school teacher comes out as transgender-and finds acceptance.” The article was a profile of a woman named Gabriela Stein-Bodenheimer, who “transitioned,” as such disfiguring surgery is now described, into “becoming a man.”

Both headlines described Mercy High School as a “Catholic school” but an online teacher review from an ostensible student gives a more detailed assessment: “They (Mercy High staff) are intentional about the way they teach women to believe in their power and potential. The bible is taught from a feminist/inclusive perspective and encourage students to think about what they believe and why. Mercy is LGBT friendly and does not enforce the new homophobic/transphobic doctrine for Catholic schools.”

Guaio – signed Catholics for Equality statement

Stein-Bodenheimer told the Chronicle, “It was very important to speak, and name myself, and not be silent,” but there is no indication that she has been silent in the past. In February, 2016, Stein-Bodenheimer attended the annual convention of the California Association of Teachers of English, held in Costa Mesa. According to the convention program, Stein-Bodenheimer gave a presentation on February 21. Her subject was “Capote loved Perry Smith: Teaching Queer Subtexts.”

Mercy High School also employs Hilda Guiao as a teacher of religion. Her LinkedIn page describes her role as “Teaching two sections of one-semester ethics classes to sophomores and three sections of Foundations of Religion classes to freshmen and transfer students.” Guiao, who like Stein-Bodenheimer, likes to wear a tie, was a signatory to a 2012 statement by Catholics for Equality, supporting Referendum 74. Referendum 74 gave voters a choice on whether to preserve natural marriage in the state of Washington, or allow what Pope Francis described when Argentina faced a similar vote in 2010 as “a ‘move’ of the father of lies who seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.” At the time Guiao signed the Catholics for

Equality statement, she had finished a two-year stint serving as the Spiritual Enrichment for Young Adults Coordinator at the Ignatian Spirituality Center in Seattle. Both Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the Military Service and Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C., have said Catholics for Equality “cannot be legitimately recognized as Catholic.”

Mercy High employs Matthew Evearitt as director of educational technology.  On June 29, 2015, Evearitt posted a video of “Christians” from Oakland attending San Francisco’s 2015 Gay Pride parade, and  who, in Evearitt’s description of the video “…went and stood in love with those celebrating, and apologized for the hurt and damage done in the name of Christianity.” On his Facebook containing his video Evearitt wrote: “The movement surrounding affirmation of gay people in the church is growing and I’m glad to be part of a community that is a part of that…this is just a start.” The exercise is a part of what Pope Francis described in his January, 2015 speech in the Philippines as a “new ideological colonization that tries to destroy the family.”

As CalCatholic reported on April 14 of this year, the Mercy Center in Burlingame, run by the order, hosted pro-abortion and anti-marriage Congresswoman Jackie Speier. Speier has never received a less than 100 percent rating from the pro-abortionist group NARAL. Speier is featured front and center on the banner of the school’s Twitter page.

  1. Wow: A “Catholic” school that turns out to be a fraud! What are the chances. Actually, today the chances are more likely than not. Why, oh why do “Catholic” schools attract and continue to employ such insidious people as teachers?

  2. Elizabeth says:

    BUT, NOW…….

  3. Gratias says:

We have plenty of affirmation of gays in the Catholic Church. Here in Los Angeles Roger Cardinal Mahony paid $640,000,000 for this infestation.

  4. Linda Maria says:

The young minds, hearts, and souls of the Catholics of tomorrow, who are also America’s citizens of the future– are being thoroughly BRAINWASHED and CORRUPTED, TRAINED INTO SIN (instead of Christian virtue!) at such a very early age— while the stupid Church just sits there and does NOTHING!!! Satan is VERY BUSY– destroying our Church and country! BETTER TO CLOSE ALL OF THESE SCHOOLS FOR GOOD, and DESTROY THESE EVIL, FALSE, SATANIC “RELIGIOUS ORDERS!!”

  5. Why would any parent waste their money to have their children indoctrinated in the ways of Satan?

    • Ann Malley says:

“Catholic” schools are more treacherous than public schools. Satan wears a habit there or whatever trappings are deemed acceptable to lure those intent on keeping the outside of the cup buffed to a blinding sheen so nobody has to look at the rot inside.

And branding is expensive business, even if the actual product is spun up cheap at a sweat shop in Hades.

    • Your Fellow Catholic says:

Fine, don’t send you kids there, Father Perozich!

      • Ann Malley says:

…I notice you didn’t argue with the reason why Fr. Perozich thought the expense for this school a complete waste, YFC. That’s telling.

      • Ann, it is telling. There are as many cowards who bat from the other side of the plate. YFC, step up and tell the world about what you claim to be. Many of us continue to pray for all souls.

        • Ann Malley says:

….from what I’ve gathered over the years, YFC is about “conscience” being supreme. That is why the idea of Catholic schools offering an education that purposely deforms the conscience is so agreeable.

I call it manufactured invincible ignorance wherein those who are mandated to teach don’t because it’s either too hard, not fun, or comes at the risk of actually having to stand for something. Or someone – that being Christ crucified.

The new and improved “accompaniment” is like having a Disney-mom who manages her child’s career so they can do drugs together in hot clothes and hot parties. But hey, who are we to question the methods of such a loving mom who spends so much time with her child?

          • Linda Maria says:

YFC apparently doesn’t know, that it is a part of a priest’s daily routine work, to advise Catholic parents, on issues of sending their kids to Catholic schools! Ridiculous!

  6. Some questions: as the local ordinary, Archbishop Cordileone has direct authority over all religion teachers in his diocese. Why does he not exercise vigilance by requiring that dissident teachers be removed from their teaching positions by schools?

Also, if Mercy H.S. is so corrupt and against Catholic Faith, why doesn’t the archbishop declare that Mercy High may not call itself Catholic?

Failing that, why doesn’t the archbishop forbid the sacraments from being celebrated at Mercy H.S. and forbid the Eucharist from being reserved in the school chapel?

    • Linda Maria says:

Sawyer, since Vatican II, the Archbishop can only have authority over schools run by the Archdiocese! Mercy High is run by a religious order (scandalous, heretical, blasphemous, immoral!)—– the world-famous Mercy Sisters! Can’t believe how HORRIBLE they became, after Vatican II!! But then– Vatican II is a HORROR in itself!! DISASTER!!

      • Linda Maria, that isn’t correct. Canon Law:
Can. 803 §2. The instruction and education in a Catholic school must be grounded in the principles of Catholic doctrine; teachers are to be outstanding in correct doctrine and integrity of life.
§3. Even if it is in fact Catholic, no school is to bear the name Catholic school without the consent of competent ecclesiastical authority.
Can. 804 §2. The local ordinary is to be concerned that those who are designated teachers of religious instruction in schools, even in non-Catholic ones, are outstanding in correct doctrine, the witness of a Christian life, and teaching skill.
Can. 805 For his own diocese, the local ordinary has the right to appoint or approve teachers of religion and even to…

        • Continued from above:
Can. 805 For his own diocese, the local ordinary has the right to appoint or approve teachers of religion and even to remove them or demand that they be removed if a reason of religion or morals requires it.
Can. 806 §1. The diocesan bishop has the right to watch over and visit the Catholic schools in his territory, even those which members of religious institutes have founded or direct. He also issues prescripts which pertain to the general regulation of Catholic schools; these prescripts are valid also for schools which these religious direct, without prejudice, however, to their autonomy regarding the internal direction of their schools.
§2. Directors of Catholic schools are to take care under the watchfulness…

          • Linda Maria says:

Sawyer– bless you! Go ask your local prelate just what they do with the Code of Canon Law! (Even Pope St. John Paul II’s revised Code, in the 1980’s!) They will explain to you, that it is ignored, since Vatican II, and that is the policy of the Vatican! Also, Catholic schools run by religious orders, were all removed from under the Church’s authority– since Vatican II! All a prelate (bishop or archbishop) can do, is give his opinions– but the ultimate authority is the religious order! This is due to “Vatican II religious freedoms!”

          • Linda Maria says:

Sawyer, since Vatican II, the only Catholic schools now under a prelate’s control- are the diocesan/archdiocesan schools. Very shocking, isn’t it? And even in this case– they still do not have the kind of authority they had, in the pre-Vatican I Church– it is more of a sort of “mutual collaboration,” as the Vatican does not like the “power and authority problems” which the Church used to be heavily criticized for! You might want to read more of the history on this subject– for one thing, try reading about the infamous “Land of Lakes Agreement,” in the 1960’s! It will be a SHOCKER!!

          • Linda Maria says:

Sawyer– if you go to Google, and type in these words– “Land o’ Lakes Statement Boston College David O’Brien” — you will be led to a good website, where you can read the whole, shocking backstory, on the demise of “Catholic identity,” in all of our Catholic schools, after Vatican II!! (Particularly, American Catholic schools and colleges! But the same thing also happened, in Catholic schools and colleges, in other countries!)

          • Anonymous says:

Linda, what you are writing is incorrect.

          • Linda Maria says:

Anonymous, you need to find out the truth for yourself! Go do your homework! Next, you will understand the severe problems, with the crisis in our post-Vatican II Church! And NO- Archbishop Cordileone is NOT going to be the one, to correct the problems, at Mercy High, or Jesuit-run USF, etc. etc.! Mercy High School is under the direct control of the Sisters of Mercy religious order! All the Archbishop can do, is give his opinions and advice, and make complaints! Same thing in Indiana, with Notre Dame U., in the Diocese there! Poor bishop! A HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE!!

  7. To Your Fellow Catholic: I wish we had many more priests like Fr. Perozich who speak truth.

    • Ivy League says:

      Amen Peggy, Amen!

    • Catherine says:

Thank you, and God bless you, Father Perozich, for not denying Christ before men.

Matthew 5:13-15. You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house.

Matthew 10:33 But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven. Douay-Rheims

  8. These are Novus Ordo nuns, earrings, skirts, makeup, they are all old and burned their habits in the 1960’s!!

    • You should remember Janek, that if you’re lucky, you’ll be old too someday.

      • Ann Malley says:

We should also remember that Faith comes from God, C&H. That’s why an aging religious order with no youthful members to carry on after the older ones who will die is often a sign of failed policy – the policy of transmitting man’s ways and not God’s.

So, yes, we all age. But God’s truth doesn’t. It’s the same. That’s why messing with that reality– even if we think the truth is mean, harsh, whatever — is not a good idea. The wages of sin – rejecting God – is death.

  9. Old meaning that these LEFT WING nuns if you can call them nuns, are all products of the 1960’s and are dying off, their convents are empty and closing. On the other hand Traditional sisters in habits such as the Nashville Dominicans and the Benedictines of Mary Queen of Apostles who celebrate the TLM only are packed with waiting lists to get into their orders. The mean faced, pagan, Marxist-Leninist nuns will be a footnote in history, albeit a sad note in Church history. The Church will recover in time and the TLM will be restored to all of our altars maybe not in our time but it will come!

  10. FromThePew says:

    Note to Cal. Catholic:
PLEASE STOP posting pictures of women dressed up in mens attire/fashion.
All I can say is – UGH. Yes I love the sinner and hate the sin but PLEASE STOP giving them any publicity with these pictures. I do not care to peek into the weirdness of other peoples lives. The articles should come with a warning if you must show pictures of these persons. Many of us would prefer to NOT see these poor, self-deluded souls in costume. Thanks you.

    • FromThePew says:

Continued…….I just read an article about transgender = mental illness. So I’ll always pray for these souls, but the pictures just unsettles me. It’s looking at the possession of a soul by evil.

Outside of that, Cal Catholic you do good work and Thanks!

  11. Canisius says:

Dear Fellow Catholics, in the past 30 days I have undergone my own personal purgatory which I will not go into. However my soul has been permanently transformed in way I cannot described. I wish no confrontation with any fellow Catholic on this site or anywhere else and I ask forgiveness for all those I have insulted and injured. (YFC, C&H, ANON, Bob One and anyone else who has taken offense to my harshness. My only wish to draw closer to Christ through his Church and the Sacraments. I will not be posting on this site again, I wish you farewell and God Bless

    • FromThePew says:

Canisius, Just for the record, here is one of your posts to me which I found very helpful……..”From the Pew,, this is for you: Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi, Lex Vivendi…How we pray, effects what we believe, effects how we live…….”
I’m rather new at this site so maybe I have not seen what you mean but maybe you are being harsh with yourself about postings here? Don’t we all ‘get a little wrapped up in our responses’ sometimes. Everybody should be free to express their opinion with no hard feelings. God bless your quest!

    • Canisius, may the peace of Christ, which you deeply deserve, be with you now and always.

    • Your Fellow Catholic says:

I wish you the best Canisius, and I accept your apologize and offer you forgiveness.

    • Michael McDermott says:

Canisius – May the Lord God have Mercy on Us All, for We All are in Great Need.

May You Heal and experience the fullness of God’s Tender Mercy & Love.

      Go in Peace

    • Remember, there are authentic Catholics and there are phony Catholics. There are informed Catholics and there are ignorant Catholics. There are Catholics who are relatively more holy and those who are relatively less holy.

Also remember that instructing the ignorant and admonishing the sinner are spiritual works of mercy.

    • Canisius, I have long deplored what I considered your hateful attitude about certain individuals. Yet, your very presence on this site suggested you were at least striving toward God. Thus, even if someone seems lost, declaring allegiance to God at least makes it more likely an individual will find a way to improve themselves spiritually. I wish all of us here, and you in particular, good fortune in this quest.

    • Anne T. says:

I will keep you in my prayers, Canisius, I can only imagine having to go through what you did. God speed.

  12. YOU are going to H*ll says:

It’s hard to believe that I stumble upon this article only to read such hate. Anyone who speaks against these teachers is simply an ignorant hypocrite. Jesus 101 folks….he hung out with the crowd most of society thought negatively of. But he probably wouldn’t have hung out with you. Nope, you would have been the one throwing the stones and mocking him. Straight to Hell for you I’m afraid. But don’t worry these teachers will be praying for your souls while they sit in heaven.
