Relevant Radio dropping Catholic Answers Live on Jan. 1

Catholic Answers could not come to an agreement with Relevant Radio, which sought exclusive broadcast and branding rights for the top-rated Catholic radio show in the U.S.

Christopher Check of Catholic Answers

As of January 1, 2018, radio stations owned by Relevant Radio® will no longer carry Catholic Answers Live, for years the top-rated Catholic radio show in the U.S.

In 2017, Relevant Radio merged with the West Coast-based Immaculate Heart Radio, a network that had carried the two-hour call-in show live 3-5 p.m. Pacific Time. Catholic Answers, which for twenty years has produced Catholic Answers Live, could not come to an agreement with Relevant Radio, which sought exclusive broadcast and branding rights for the popular franchise.

As a result, the show will no longer be available over the airwaves in the U.S. West, the home turf of the San Diego-based show.

“Both parties worked at length in good faith to find a way to cooperate in the Lord’s vineyard,” said Christopher Check, president of Catholic Answers. “For the time being, we have not been successful.”

Catholic Answers Live will continue to air live on more than 350 EWTN-affiliated radio stations and SiriusXM satellite radio, as well as via the Catholic Answers Live app and live-streaming video via Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Periscope.

  1. I PERSONALLY DO NOT LIKE WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN DOING TO WHAT WAS ONCE A WONDERFUL, FAMILY TYPE RUN STATION! I WILL NOT LISTEN TO IT AND A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE, A WONDERFUL CATHOLIC WOMAN FEELS THE SAME WAY….AND I WOULD IMAGE THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WHO FEEL THE SAME WAY.

    SO SAD, WHAT A SHAME!!!!!

    • I was so excited to have Immaculate Heart radio in Los Angeles, but first Mother Miriam is dropped and now Catholic Answers. Sad.

      • Regarding Mother Miriam, see Church Militant’s update:

Mother Miriam’s live radio show is being taken up by The Station of the Cross Catholic Radio Network. The revived show will take off on January 3 and is scheduled for 10–11a.m. EST, Monday–Friday.

    • Elizabeth Fry says:

I MUST agree totally. I miss the Terry and Jessie show as well as Mother Merrian and Catholic Answers.

  2. I stopped listening about a month ago. They also eliminated Mother Miriam. The name itself indicates the content. To them relevant is current events but not as it relates to the Catholics Faith. Too many nutty call-ins and not enough substance that helps me grow in my faith.

What a shame Revelant Radio dropped her show.

I am a catholic who has been away from the church for some time. Recently, I found IHeart Radio. I fell in love with Mother Mariam’s show, and learned so much from her. From that had decided to return to the church but if I continue to listen to what RR now stands for, I may change my mind. I do no like RR much at all anymore, and especially refuse to listen to Drew Mariani’s show which starts off with ***partisan*** politics. Keep politics off the show! Do not mix politics with religion! I am sory but DMs…

  3. Linda Maria says:

I think it is very sad that Imaculate Heart Radio had to merge with Relevant Radio! I never listened to modern, post-Vatican II radio, in my whole life! However, I know that it has helped many, many Catholics, and others, to find Christ! Sorry to hear that this show– which must be pretty good!– has been dropped! I dislike the modern, secular-style Church, with too many laymen up on the altar, and too many laymen in the media, in positions of spiritual leadership! I much prefer the leadership of good Catholic clergy– starting wth the Holy Father! (And today– sadly! — many of them, are not very good, not very holy!)

  4. By getting rid of Mother Miriam, they got rid of me. Should be called Relative Radio!

I agree. Please bring back mother Miriam and Phil.. Catholic answers Jesse and Terry I used to listen to them all day long and now I hardly even listen it’s not worth listening to except for Joe Sakura then it comes on too late they moved him an hour later and then my radio Fizzles out with bad reception here in San Diego.

  5. Patricia Barron says:

I have enjoyed Catholic Answers for the last 9 years during my commute time, here in CA. I guess I will not have to find other options.

  6. Where I live (Illinois), I’ve never heard Catholic Answers Live on Relevant Radio. I have to listen to EWTN radio for the show, and that is how it’s always been – at least as long as we’ve had Catholic radio in my area (15 years). It’s too bad they feel the need to drop the one show responsible for enlivening, and especially, enlightening my faith over the course of that span of time.

  7. First step in secularizing is to have some programs replace others; the second is to suppress the religious ones completely. Part of the general apostasy going one

  8. Someone has said that Mother Miriam is the new Mother Angelica. I agree. She is filled with wisdom and knows the scriptures and Catholic catechism thoroughly, and she gives advice with great care and love.

  9. I see that Patrick Madrid, Terry Barber, and Jesse Romero all got prime, regular spots. No surprise there, as the 3 of them have always been assertive go-getters. Glad to see Joe Sikora is still there, what a wise and helpful counselor. Drew Mariani can be kind of hit-and-miss (having pseudoscientific “nutrition experts” on his show promoting their snake oil). Not really surprised about Mother Miriam-her order (which consists of 1-3 members, as so far hardly anyone is making it to final or even temporary vows) is getting kicked out of Tulsa, and thus far, no other diocese wants them. She has been promoting LIFESITE NEWS on her radio show, which is very anti-Pope Francis.

    • I have never heard Mother Miriam say anything unkind about Pope Francis. Perhaps she thinks he should answer the Dubia, but I have not heard her say anything about it. As far as Jesse Romero, he talked tonight against the New Age movement and said good things about Poland not wanting Shariah Law in their country, and that we should not have it here either, so it all seems very orthodox to me.

I think they both do great, and perhaps one is needed in one place and another somewhere else. Let us pray for them — that the Lord puts them where they are most needed.

    • And Catholic Answers needs to have a space somewhere too as they do good work.

  10. Thank you for that good news about Mother’s show getting picked up again. The abrupt way they dropped Mother’s show shows where Relevant Radio is coming from, if you have heard the real story of how that happened. What a shame, what a bate and switch for all of the good people that sacrificed to pay for and bring about Immaculate Heart Radio. No thanks to Catholic-Lite, Relevant Radio (what kind of name is that for a Catholic radio network anyway? Who are these people?)

  11. Don Guillermo says:

First, Mother Angelica dies and now this. I conjecture that bishops had a hand in the subversion of what was once a Catholic radio network. Still and all, we “men signed of the cross of Christ Go gaily in the dark.”

  12. leah heppe says:

It’s unbelievable they dropped programs like Heart to Heart by Mother Merriam and Catholic Answers Live without even an official statement on their website. I called in and cancel our monthly pledge. I am really sad that this happened.

  13. Randolph Ortlieb says:

Give Relevant Radio a chance. Patrick Madrid and Jesse and Joe Sikorra are all there. Plus, the influence of the Midwest and Eastern U.S. Catholic Church is helpful. I thought Mother Miriam was good, but not great. I wish her success.

    • julie King says:

Relevant abruptly dropped Terry and Jesse first week of January. Crazy decision. And I had just made a generous donation! Now I will support the new Terry and Jesse Show online. Those men are fabulous.
