Katy Perry wins court battle with nuns

A Los Angeles judge has once again paved the way for Katy Perry to buy her dream home — a nun’s convent.

Judge Stephanie Bowick ruled Wednesday that the California Institute of the Sisters, controlled by the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles, has clear title to the property and so is free to complete the sale to Perry, who had been competing with local restaurateur Dana Hollister.

The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles had been locked in a legal battle with the convent’s order of nuns over who had the right to sell the 8-acre property. The archdiocese had argued that only it had the right to sell the property, a position Bowick agreed with in April and again in her new ruling issued Tuesday.

Perry has been trying to buy the property since 2015, when she was pulled into the legal battle after the nuns of the Institute for the Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary tried to sell the aging property to Hollister for $15.5 million.

The two remaining nuns of the sisterhood — who are now living offsite — had maintained their right to sell, pointing to the fact that the property was bequeathed to them more than 40 years ago by a devout parishioner.

The archdiocese, however, argued that only the church had the right to sell the 1927 estate, which is nestled in the Los Feliz neighborhood near Hollywood.

The archbishop also argued that Hollister lacked the financial resources to go through with the purchase, and instead wanted to sell to Perry for $14.5 million.

How sad that the Sisters could not prevent the sale of their property to someone who is pro-abortion, It’s not surprising–even to a New Yorker–how disgraceful the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is, which plans to ignore the facts and proceed with the sale.

  2. Archbishop Gomez has sent a loud message—-Catholicism has no morality when practiced by the Archdiocese! The Abp talks the talk but does not walk the walk.

Selling the ‘Seed Corn’ – Why?

This could have been re-purposed And the Nuns cared for, without such drastic divesting for cash $.

  4. I thougth, the sister were under Rome governance ,not the diocese of Los Angeles.

Folks, on every level it’s clear that we are living in the era representing the end of Christendom. I don’t mean thereby the end of the church or Christianity. I do mean that social, political and moral living has become estranged from its Christian roots now. We’re adrift in a sea of self centered ego maniacal individualists.

WHY does Katy P want this place SO bad? Because the devil wants it SO bad – and it appears the Arch cannot see what everyone else does & THAT is SO VERY bad.
However, don’t forget – the devil never wins in the end. (and) God will Bless those nuns. 🙂

Too bad the Archbishop never asked the question… “what would Jesus do”?

  8. That which was Sacred, will now become Profane! All because of the Idolatry of money. SHAME on the Archbishop! Pray for the Archbishop and Katy, they both made the same chose to worship mammon. Sad indeed.

  9. Remember that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was celebrated there hundreds, if not thousands, of times. This convent was blessed and consecrated to house consecrated women of God. Pray that the effects of these holy moments will touch Miss Perry’s heart and soul and drive the evil one from her life forever. This may be the will of God. Who knows? It could happen.

  10. Hopefully they can bless the house with holy salt, holy water, and hide blessed medals in places.

Well – Somebody has to pay for the harm (and attorney fees) form turning loose Ephebophile Pederasts loose on the Boys of the Church, and hollywierd money has bought what so many should already see as the future of the Church – that the the rest of us should look to a future of penal servitude for political incorrectness with the profits going to PP and and the forces of ‘tolerance’ – for Evil
