Intolerance

Rahm Emanuel

The following comes from a July 27 posting by George Neumayr on Real Clear Religion.

The Obama Left places believing Christians in the same moral category as racists. The bullying has escalated to the point that prominent liberal mayors, such as Chicago’s Rahm Emanuel, now openly say that Christians are unworthy of even running a fast food chain in the public square.

“Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values. They’re not respectful of our residents, our neighbors and our family members. And if you’re gonna be part of the Chicago community, you should reflect Chicago values,” said Emanuel, backing alderman Joe Moreno’s goal of preventing the chicken restaurant from opening its doors in the Logan Square neighborhood.

This is a stunning doubling down in the left’s war on Christianity by a prominent Democrat. Emanuel, Obama’s former chief of staff, has in effect told the religious across the country, in an election year no less, that traditional Christian values are not American values.

Obama supporter Tom Hanks once said that opponents of gay marriage in California were “un-American,” but Emanuel’s comment spells this view out even more explicitly. The dictatorship of relativism, to borrow Pope Benedict XVI’s phrase, has never been more cocky. Apparently, Americans must not only learn to live under the amoral style of “Chicago politics” but also under the in-your-face secularism of “Chicago values.”

A less biased press would see great significance in Emanuel’s thuggish phrase. But since reporters sympathize with the Left’s war on Christianity, and since Mitt Romney shows little to no interest in engaging Obama on non-economic matters, this remarkable outburst will not get the attention it deserves. Has the culture really changed so quickly and dramatically that a position held by many Democrats, including the president, just months ago — a position ratified by the people in over thirty states — can be the grounds for depriving a chicken restaurant chain from operating in major American cities?

Thomas Menino

Emanuel has been joined by Boston mayor Thomas Menino in this get-the-hell-out-of-my-city message to Christians. “In recent days you said Chick-fil-A opposes same-sex marriage, and said the generation that supports it has an ‘arrogant attitude,'” Menino wrote to the company’s top executive in Atlanta. “Now — incredibly — your company says you are backing out of the same-sex marriage debate. I urge you to back out of your plans to locate in Boston….”

Americans are coming to see in more and more graphic form-from the HHS mandate all the way down to mayoral decrees enforcing political correctness-what Obama meant when he said in the 2008 campaign that he was going to “fundamentally transform” the country. He is the “one” we have “been waiting for,” his supporters chanted, meaning that he would run the ball into the end zone for radicalism.

  1. Well, you know, on second thought, maybe the govt should nationalize small business. After all, Ram’s old boss, Pres Obomutha, has informed us all that business does not do anything but that it’s the govt that creates and makes everything. If I were Ram, I’d start nationalizing the easy businesses such as kids’ lemonade stands. That way he won’t have to worry about being humiliated.

    • it’s clrear to me that the hamburger joints are behind this axis of evil, trying to drive the chickens out so more beef gets sold!!!

hence, the chicken sandwich sellers are crying foul…or is it fowl?

when chickens are outlawed, only outlaws will be able to eat chicken…

      • Catherine says:

max ( the James Carville of Amchurch says), “It’s clrear (clear :)) to me that the hamburger joints are behind this axis of evil.” Why is max even here if he does not want to support God’s natural law? The answer is: max is here to whittle away and dumb down Christian values. What max does not realize is how much he is making it even clearer as to how much homosexuality can be an all consuming disorder without the Redeeming Grace of God.

All Christians should drive through a Chick-Fil-A restaurant on August 1, to show their appreciation and support for the Godly value of traditional marriage and for the right to have the freedom of speech. I have heard from people all over that Chick-Fil-A makes one of the most delicious chicken sandwiches around! Bon Appetit! : )

        • Anonymous says:

So max is not Catholic enough for you, huh? People who use the word Amchurch are not Catholic enough for me.

          • amchurch always makes me think of amway…

          • but i am not quite sure where the words comes from…

          • Rick DeLano says:

            It’s typical ecclesiological shorthand, max.

            Rad Trad is another.

            Those folks read Rorate Coeli.

AmChurch has The National Catholic Distorter…er…Reporter.

          • Good observation, max, as they’re both sales oriented.

          • Rick DeLano says:

Notice the statement of the Chick Fil A franchisee in Obamatown, requesting a face to face with the Godfather Emmanuel.

A very sweet, very important, very powerful lawsuit is now being built step by step.

See you Wednesday at Chick Fil A!

          • Catherine says:

Anonymous says, “People who use the word Amchurch are not Catholic enough for me.”

Lead shepherds who send out memos supporting homosexual domestic partnership are not being Catholic enough for Our Lady of Akita. They have compromised the faith.

Book Review: ‘Amchurch Comes Out’ by Paul Likoudis

“Likoudis closes his book with four recommendations from Fr. Paul Shaugnessy, SJ who wrote the 2000 article for Catholic World Report; The Gay Priest Problem, Shaughnessy believes that Rome should 1.) “require heads on platters” and name only bishops who have a track record of getting rid of miscreants, 2.) forbid homosexuals in the seminary, 3.) restore simplicity to priestly life, and 4.) the laity must demand high standards from priests beginning with their wearing clerics outside the rectory.”

But the unity of the Church will be greatly strengthened in the (long overdue) recognition on the part of the episcopacy of the mortal threat, a dagger poised directly over the heart of the Catholic Church itself, of the gay fascism movement.

          • Abeca Christian says:

Anonymous of all names to use you had to use that one?

          • in this new format, ABECA, if you forget to type in your name, it simply puts you in as “ANONYMOUS.”

this has happened to me a couple of times, until i got the hang of it…

          • Abeca Christian says:

Really? I don’t think it happens to me because my computer automatically puts my name in the name section and it is saved there for some reason? That is why friends and my hubby don’t post when they use my computer, they see my name in there automatically put in, so they think I had done it that way and don’t want to erase it by adding their name. I told them go right ahead, it’s no biggy, I can re add it but they seem afraid…..Just kidding

          • ” People who use the word Amchurch are not Catholic enough for me”: Anonym, so what?

          • Anonymous, who cares!

        • Catherine, if that is max’s intention to whittle away our values he should try whittlin’ with a sharper stick!
And if he’s set to dumb down America, he is surely on the right track!
          (chortle, snort)

  2. Abeca Christian says:

Chicago has a high crime rate, not the best place to raise a family, so Chick fil A is actually blessed to stay away from that state! Support Chick Fil A and eat there this Wednesday Aug. 1st! I bought a lot of chick fil A gift cards and gave them out!

  3. We really need to wake up to the attack on Religious Freedom in this country or we will loose it.

    • Abeca Christian says:

yes SoCal we do need to wake up the people who are ignorant about what is truly happening to this great country of ours, we need to pray for their conversion because many are blind to it or just simply do not bother with caring. They have lost backbone, good common sense and common decency! If you ask me, we have already lost Religious Freedom, fault the Media for that too. They may have us fooled that we still have those freedom’s but like anything evil that infiltrates slowly like a thief in the night, many are oblivious to the truth and reality! Many are intimated into fear to just keep their faith to themselves and that is not how Christianity believes.

  4. Thankfully Chicago ways are not America’s ways and the whole state should be removed from the U.S. along with Hell-lywood and the Obamas. Menino and Emanuel (is he even American?) are both bigots and should both be removed from office as there is now excuse for this kind of hate that they are spewing. Why don’t they stop the Muslims from doing business in ‘their’ cities as the Muslims have a strong hatred of homosexuality and they have a very unique way of eliminating these people in their own countries: hint: read Alice in Wonderland and what that mad queen keeps yelling. Obama and his fiends claim that if you have a business, you lose your religious freedom, along with that stupid statement about those that have a business or company, you didn’t start it, someone else did. Doesn’t Menino look just like Barney Frank? Could be they are twin brothers as they both “think” alike. EVERYBODY SHOULD BOYCOTT THE CITIES OF CHICAGO AND BOSTON and Kermit and all those that are associated with him as they not only support birth-control and abortion, but also homosexuality which is very stupid as they need customers and they support the removal of new customers. +JMJ+

    • “Menino and Emanuel (is he even American?)…”

      you are hilarious.

well, he was born in chicago, so i’m not sure it that qualifies…it’s a bit iffy, sort of like hawaii.

his parents were jewish, so that may disqualify him in your mind as well.

“is he even american?” i love it. this is like watching r3edneck t.v. or something.

    • Doesn’t anyone remember that cocky little schmakalena named Rham Emmanuel telling his bigtime Chicago protege, now president that always, always take advantage of chaos??? If the mayor was elected in an honest election then Chicagoans deserve him. The other grand mayor of Boston is certainly no better!

    • JMJ, it is a purification rite of passage to eliminate poisons from our lives and direct our energies to causes that will direct us to God and spiritual growth and eventually Heaven, don’t you think? I’ve found that by giving up coffee at MacDonald’s and Starbucks, NEVER shopping at Target or HomeDepot, avoiding such joy killers as the NewYorkTImes and the Wallstreet Journal etc. has cleaned our my system, fattened my pocketbook and freed my mind to turn my thoughts to higher things. I haven’t missed them in the least! Every year I go through my closet and throw out clothes I’ve not worn for the past year. I find that if I do that with places and things where I spend my time or money is an invaluable spiritual tool. If we as Catholics were to re=evaluate what is most important to us, and reflect on where we spend our time and money it would sharpen our thinking and make us pause as to what is REALLY important. If it is worthless and bigoted or in direct contradiction to our faith, it makes sense to stop supporting it. If enough of us would do that, (and check the labels and don’t buy it if it’s made in China) we could make a little difference in the world. All of those companies could go out of business and we would never miss them,(unless of course we were employed by them, but what Catholic wants to work for a company that supports abortion?) but if enough of us would stop supporting them, they would sure miss us, which might lead them to do a little reflecting and re-evaluation of their own.

  5. Laurette Elsberry says:

This article has a definite relationship to the “Gestapo” article which follows. They both relate to the heavy-handed tactics of Obama and his henchmen. Will the voters wake up in time to see that more of Obama and his buddies will certainly change this country into another Iran-type dictatorship?…… On a lighter note, I love “when chickens are outlawed, only outlaws will be able to eat chicken”.

  6. All persons including Business owners are entitled to “FREEDOM of RELIGION”.
Those who elect EVIL politicians at any level of government will get EVIL in return.
I hope the Chicago Diocese and all their parishes are openly active regarding Freedom of Religion for all persons. And impressing on Catholics the obligation to VOTE with an informed conscience.
    The CCC informs consciences.

If Catholics do not take their obligation very seriously, we could see persecution from Government for adhereing to our Faith.

Support “Chick-fil-A” by postings and by eating at their establishments.

Rom Emanual (Obama buddy) has no authority to speak on behalf of all Chicago residents.

  7. Patrick says:

The citizens ought to point out that this country is based upon a majority opinion, not the minority opinion of either politicians or poor sinners who practice unnatural sex and want to disorient society to their liking.

  8. To counter the pro-‘gay’ people protesting in front of Chick-fil-A’s stores, I would counter-march with signs that read : ”Woe unto those who call good evil and evil good”, and “Live chastely uniting your homosexual suffering to the redemptive healing of the cross”.

  9. Abeca Christian says:

People say California is bad. Sounds like Chicago is right up there with California now. Rahm Emanuel sounds like a criminal and a shady character! I don’t know how people trust this man to lead. He is so outspoken that he probably shuts down or even slams anyone who crosses him. Doesn’t sound like a decent man. It’s be interesting to know more about his background. When did he decide for men to lose their manhood by embracing unnatural lifestyles? When did he decide to sell his soul to the evil one because any man of Character would not behave in such a manner nor make such hateful comments against the common good and common decency!!

    • Abeca, Chicago is California without the sunshine, India without the culture or color, China without the ingenuity or intelligence, Russia without the vodka. It’s a flat abysmal outpouring of cheap housing and get rich quick schemes, the town that Jimmy Hoffa could not shut down, the bloated bureaucracy that the Daly’s managed like mafia dons and crime passes for entertainment. The wind tries to blow it off the map, but no luck so far. The beautiful churches, and culture temples just aren’t enough to offset the rot and corruption. The muck rakers of the early twentieth century just couldn’t do that town justice. I drive hundreds of miles out of my way and never complain just to avoid driving in that state of iniquity (it’s not just Chicago). Corie Ten Boom, the Dutch evangelist, said she could see a gray palor over communist cities and countries. Well, I’ve often felt that about Chicago. It reeks evil. max can call me a redneck. Ah don’ mind honey. Ah’d much rathuh be a li’l ole country gal than to be sum so-fistkat’d city slickah. Praise God ‘n pass th’ grits!

      • Abeca Christian says:

yes true Dana. Many have lost their good common sense, with many anything goes. We must persevere in prayer and pray for the conversion of the American people. If there are still good people left then why are these crooked immoral politicians in power? Maybe they are the fruit of what the people are reaping and what Hollywood has fooled people into believing . I do believe that we are living in wicked times and goodness is being shunned. Not enough backbone or maybe we are outnumbered. I know that there is power in numbers, the few of us who still fear the Lord, need to unite and support one another. After all, when we all die, we won’t take anything with us. The material goods of this world do not promise us salvation, we can’t be fooled no more. We can not submit to a wicked society that only intimates fear into God’s people, telling us we can’t live out our faith. Jesus set forth an example we must follow. I know it’s easier said than done, most of the time, we do not want discomfort and the spiritual battles are truly strong and intimating, but I do hope that my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ would continue to pray for one another, to lift up one another in Christ Jesus! Through the intercession of our blessed Mother in Christ, I pray for each and everyone of the faithful to lift one another up and help one another accomplish what needs done in Christ, all for HIS GLORY! Praise Be Jesus Christ! God help us when we are discouraged and feel run down, God bless us with His courage and strength, His zeal to continue in fortitude and may He give us rest when we need that time, after all we are only human and when we are down, we need to recognize that it is Christ who is right there holding us.

        • So true, Abeca. God bless you, dear sister. You’re an encouragement to us older ones that there are young mothers teaching the faith to their children and witnessing to their communities.

      • Great post, Dana. Even those so-called hillbillies know enough not to misuse their body parts just from observing animal husbandry. It seems that some of those city slickers do not even have the common sense of a hog.

        • Well, Anne, I wouldn’t say that. haha DON”T go see the movie Deliverance, based on the novel by James Dickey. I lived in W.Virginia for a couple of years back in the sixties…it was not unlike that movie. My husband and I would ride our bikes up into the back hills and people were so shocked! They didn’t have telephones but used ham radios. Couldn’t get any tv or radio stations then, before satellite dish. Now I’m sure they’re cookie cutter Americans like the rest of us.

      • Well, in defense of my hometown, I would point out that this is where St. Frances Cabrini died. The chair where she passed away was lovingly preserved for many years in a small exhibit at the now-defunct Columbus Hospital, the hospital where my grandmother passed away in 1986. I visited the room with the chair a couple of times in my younger days. I believe I also recall reading–somebody correct me if I’m wrong–that Chicago contributed the most number of soldiers per capita of anyplace in America to the Union Army during the Civil War. Of course the State of Illinois also contributed one of its own politicians, Abraham Lincoln, whose leadership as one of America’s greatest-ever presidents held the USA together. The Chicago Tribune, still publishing today, has been around so long that it was one of those that editorialized in favor of Lincoln’s candidacy. The Catholic Church in Chicago, now in such a sorry state, not so long ago was a powerhouse in the Church in America. Our schools were heavily populated–as the death toll in the 1958 Our Lady of the Angels School fire testifies: 92 children and 3 nuns. The Archdiocese of Chicago still has the seminary at Mundelein–one of the most well-known and highly-regarded in the Church. Remember how God chided the Prophet Jonah for being disappointed that the people of Nineveh had repented and were NOT destroyed by God as punishment for their sins. If you ever do choose to visit this city, you’ll find much beauty in the streets and architecture, and certainly along the shoreline by God’s lovely Lake Michigan.

  10. I have often wondered what it would be like in the time of Antichrist
when real Christians, those who refuse the mark, are scattered and
seemingly alone. How will they know each other?

Simple. They will be the ones eating a chicken sandwich without a
    rainbow lapel pin.

This coming WEDNESDAY, Aug 1st, those who believe in Freedom of Religion will be eating at the nearest “Chick Fil A”.
Check the internet or phone book for the ‘Chick Fil A’ closest to you.

Hope you all can join us.

    • Abeca Christian says:

Fred my whole family and friends plan to go! Go Chick fil A!!!! Their spicy chicken sandwich is tasty and I like their all natural lemon aid!

    • Canisius says:

I would love to but there are none in my area, otherwise I would setup a corporate account with them

      • Canisius: I’m with you. Where I live the Chick-fil-A is just now being built. I just wish it was open so I could create a corporate account too.

  11. amnot sure, perhaps i should have written…

  12. Rick DeLano says:

    You know what?

It’s easier to game our incredibly unjust legal system once one is the “victim”.

The gay fascists have employed this time-tested rule of Alinskyite procedure for decades, quite successfully.

Looks like our side just might have caught the drift.

Let’s sue these fascist rage balls all the way to SCOTUS.

After all, the innocence of our children and our freedom of conscience now absolutely depend on it.

Along with crushing Obama in November.

  13. No need to protest with signs and slogans. Just spend your money at Chick-Fil-A — that is the best protest. A protest that gives support. I’ve never eaten at one but I plan to…

  14. I think if I had a picture taken of me wearing an expression like that blackening the mayor of Boston’s face, I’d repent immediately and pray for God to save me from the devil. ‘Help! Help! He’s possessed! Call an exorcist! Please! Hello, operator? Get me heaven on the line!’
What were the voters in Boston thinking??

  15. PS, Looking at the mayor of Chicago’s face makes one think of King Ahab under the thumb of Jezebel, or maybe a has-been comedian in a seedy Poconos resort, down on his luck. I can’t quite decide. Between him and the other mayor, it’s a rogue’s gallery . They would be naturals for old wanted posters or those old b&w photos of early 20th cent. russia of tyrannical hopefuls whose earnest faces would be blotted out in later photos by other earnest looking comrades.

    • Yes, absolutely. As the USA descends into third world status, its rulers show up more and more as corndog cart pushers.

      • Yes, or even hucksters at carnies! obama is definitely a snake oil salesman and eric holder is shifting walnut shells on a cardboard box that’s going to overturn any minute. And I see Hilary as the amazing dancing lady with the seven veils of mystery that when removed reveals a whiff of sulfuric smoke coming from a secret hole in the ground. She mysteriously turns up selling tickets outside the one world
gallery of mirrors tent where everyone going in,no matter what color shape or size all come out looking identical! Step right up!

        • Dana, it was just hilarious when the super feminist, Hilary, went to the Arab countries and put on a hajib. I thought, “Obama has got her right where he wants her. He must be laughing in his boots.” The last time she went to one of their countries, they were yelling for Monica Lewinsky. They are not fooled. They know what a hypocrite Bill Clinton is. They should take him and all those other draft dodgers, including Obama, and ship THEM over there to fight, right along with Barney Frank. Oh! and they can take Emmanuel with them.

  16. Cole Thornton says:

How do you define Chicago values? Some bishops with ties to Chicago would ask “does Rahmbo support and fund community organizers?”, “does Rahmbo give amnesty to illegals?”, “does Rahmbo go to bat for the union bosses?”, “does Rahmbo support the Alinskite radical agitators?”, “does Rahmbo promote class warfare?”. The bishop would then conclude that Rahmbo promotes ‘social justice’ and is a man that the bishop can work with to promote his agenda. That’s all that matters!

  17. I wrote this on another web site, and I decided to copy and paste it here:
I think everyone should be very suspicious of what is going on behind this subtle smoke screen! This chick fil A brouhaha is a typical but always effective demon-cratic ploy to distract us from some even more deplorable and underhanded trick that they’re carrying on behind our backs. When are we going to wake up to fact that these so-called liberals have an agenda they’ve been playing out for decades. They lie, they cheat, they do not play by the rules. They believe in killing babies and calling it ‘women’s health’! They believe in same-sex marriage and promoting it as ”human rights! They will stop being ‘subtle’ when they’ve attained power. At heart every liberal is ironically a fascist. They hate opposition and are very predictable. We would not be in this mess if we had been faithful to our vows. If we had worked harder to preserve a failed marriage, followed Church teaching, put our children above worldly ambition, or voted more carefully they could never have attained such a drastic foothold in substantially destroying this country. We had the majority and God given authority and we’ve let it come to this! You can take it to the bank that even as I am typing this, some act of treachery is being done because we are over in the playground they pointed us to while they are in another park stealing the playsets we sacrificed to build.

  18. Abeca Christian says:

Let us not fiddle around with foolish words but let us encourage one another in Christ. Christ Jesus is our salvation, His sweet salvation, His blood cleanses us. Christ Jesus is my Lord and my savior, I pray that His face be seen, that His life, when He was here on earth, once again mean something to all sinners. That His story move hearts once again, that all spiritual blindness be rebuked! We are not a free society apart from our Lord! NO we are only slaves to the wickedness of this world. Those who choose worldly ways, are slaves and wish to enslave others with their imposing of evil ways upon God’s people and way of life! I recall someone say that they may try but they will never own our souls, they may beat us to no end but they will not force our souls to comply, because we belong to Jesus and no one has power over our souls!

  19. Abeca Christian says:

Just in case people didn’t know but in California “gay” lifestyles are protected by law. They force employee’s, especially those in management positions, to take sensitivity training. I wish I could expose the type of language used to impose homosexuality on the people, but it would take a long post for that. Some of the language even suggests that even if there are Christian employee’s bothered about those who flaunt their gay lifestyles at work, they are told that it does not matter because those with same sex attractions have special protected rights currently under California state law. We need to make laws now that protect Christians! We need to have lawyers who are willing to take that task to help defend those who do not want to be indoctrinated into complying with immoral lifestyles. Imagine losing your job because you oppose these sensitivity training sessions required by employers. Wake up America, we are not free, we are persecuted!

    • I hadn’t thought of that Abeca C. How awful! It’s like being brainwashed by the Communist Chinese! You really should move to another state if it is at all possible. What a dreadful place to live, even though it is pretty and has a mild climate. Get out while the getting’s good!

      • Abeca Christian says:

Dana if only it were that easy. We have our jobs and families here, our properties etc. No easy especially when kids are already older and they have bonds with childhood friendships. But we can still fight the good fight, in little ways….

  20. Abeca Christian says:

This is a proud moment, I just came from Chick Fil A and it was packed, lots of good people! It wasn’t even lunch time yet and it was packed, there were police cars driving by. Heard of news that gay activist were gonna harass, hopefully it won’t be too bad in my area. But I was so happy to see so much support and kindness. We are heading back for lunch for my son and for our family dinner there!

  21. Abeca Christian says:

Folks please read my post from July 31, 2012 at 11:03 pm. I can’t stress enough how important it is for us to work and implement laws that protect Religious freedom. We need to break off those laws that are in place that give special treatment of gay lifestyles. We need to make these changes, especially most important is to expose the politicians record who implement such laws against those of faith! Please help by exposing such things, pray daily for the People of California to wake up, to have a heart of conversion! Donate your money to organizations who help work for the better of morals. Thank you God bless you!

  22. Abeca Christian says:

Big company’s, in order for them to avoid lawsuits, impose sensitivity courses for their management, since the laws in place are specialized for certain individuals with certain immoral lifestyles, big company’s protect themselves with such courses. If a Christian opposes, since Christian rights are not protected, they have to comply or lose their job. Schools are faced with the same, that is why you see gay lifestyles indoctrination. Training those with formed conscience and intimate them into complying is their specialty! This has brought on an onset of depression for those with morals, yes it has, one is caught in the middle, trying to do right yet having to choose because they have a family support and bills to pay.

  23. Abeca Christian says:

just returned once again from my second visit at Chick Fil A…we saw many people with their rosaries around their necks, we saw Christian bumper stickers, long lines and even one of their supervisors there thanked us for our support.

  24. Abeca Christian says:

From Catholic New Agency CNA website: Chicago, Ill., Aug 1, 2012 / 04:00 am (CNA).- Cardinal Francis E. George of Chicago says the city’s mayor showed contempt for many residents’ beliefs by stating that Chick-fil-A’s stance on marriage was against “Chicago’s values.”

“Recent comments by those who administer our city seem to assume that the city government can decide for everyone what are the ‘values’ that must be held by citizens of Chicago,” the cardinal wrote in a July 29 online post, responding to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s assertion.

“I was born and raised here, and my understanding of being a Chicagoan never included submitting my value system to the government for approval,” Cardinal George wrote.

  25. Abeca Christian says:

I wish this website would report what Cardinal Francis E. George of Chicago said when he spoke out against what the major said against Chick Fil A. We need that to be big head news. Bravo Cardinal George!

  26. I find this Chick fil A situation interesting. On one hand, I find myself a bit queasy about CEO’s of publicly held companies interjecting themselves into social controversies. Generally, I would think that’s not appropriate behavior since stockholders invest in a company not for social activism (usually) but to engage in commerce. If stockholders wanted social activism, they would donate this money to organizations devoted to those causes. However, in this case, Chick fil A’s CEO has likely increased his company’s profits and sales with this stand. In which case, stockholders don’t really have a cause to complain. (Btw, if Chick fil A is privately held, then I don’t have the same reservations). On the other hand, despite my reservations about public corporations engaging in social activism, if they do choose to do so, then those organizations have the right to freedom of expression. Thus, I do not at all agree with the mayors of Chicago or Boston. It is not the place of Mayors to act against these companies, as long as they behave in conformity to the law (including such laws as employment non-discrimination with respect to gays), it is the choice of the individuals in the marketplace. The fact is, our public servants have grown far too accustomed to bullying the public, and seizing centralized power.
