The following comes from an April 6 California Catholic Conference news release:

The Diocese of Stockton, in the heart of California’s Central Valley and facing immense environmental challenges, has joined the Catholic Climate Covenant as well as other Catholic and faith groups in filing an amicus brief in support of the Clean Power Plan, the first-ever federal standards on carbon pollution from power plants.

“The Earth is ‘Our Common Home,’” explained Bishop Stephen Blaire of Stockton.  “Our ecological future depends upon us all.  As such we must be good stewards of the planet entrusted to our care.  Climate change is a moral issue: It represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity, with its worst impact felt by our poorest communities and developing countries worldwide in the coming decades.”

The Clean Power Plan is an Environment Protection Agency (EPA) regulation that puts in place the first-ever limits on carbon pollution from power plants. Twenty-six states sued to stop the regulation; 18 filed in support.  Many states, such as California, continue to use their authority to regulate carbon emission under the regulations.

Religious organizations signing the amicus brief include:
• Catholic Climate Covenant

  1. From the Pew says:

Why do people fall for this fax issue? It is well known many scientist have been intimidated into silence regarding bad data & premises inherent in the global warming studies in order to force the ‘Climate Change’ agenda on us. Does the Bishop realize the Church’s energy bills will double or worse once the coal plants are destroyed? Raise the cost of energy & higher cost trickle down to everyone & the POOREST are the most afflicted! What hubris for little man to decide, such tiny specks on the earth can alter GOD’s WILL for His creation. Climate change = HOKUM.

    • From the Pew says:

From the Pew above, meant to type…….FAUX issue not FAX issue. OOPS.
Why does the church (Pope included) focus on the wrong things of this world?
Meanwhile, moral decline rages onward & Mass attendance continues to fall.
Saving our souls is more important than any other issue much less a fake crisis.
Are these clerics tired of performing their core job? Really, what is their problem?
May God bless us with good shepherds like Himself!

  2. If you believe in God, and you are really Catholic, you believe that God is the Creator of all things, and that He is all powerful. He is in charge of nature. By stressing global warming, one is saying that man is more powerful than God. One hundred years ago, where I live now, it was 88′ for a high. Today, the high will be 32′. So, instead of warming up, the temperature here has been cooling down. Wise scientists agree that global warming is a hoax. What a shame Blaire doesn’t.

  3. Joel Fago says:

It is a moral outrage to price energy beyond the reach of poor people! The Clean Power Plan is an Environment Protection Agency (EPA) regulation does that!!

  4. St. Christopher says:

“Daniel Smith” is correct: the “global warming” fraud is a political exercise by which — they earnestly hope and desire — gullible people will turn over not only money, but their virtual lives to the nutters who rant about having to change our way of life. Unfortunately, clerical careerist idiots like Bishop Blaire actually have people that listen to him as they prance on in support of this (aided by the Vatican, too). The professional environmentalists are also, in the main, people who support population controls of all types, real “Earth Nazis.” The poor have little say in all this, as it is an elitist movement, intent on enrolling converts. Stay away.

    • JD Cahill says:

Isn’t some of the Clinton Global Initiative supportive of population controls of all types? Wasn’t a lot of Mrs Clinton’s vast travels around the world as Sec of State really about putting the muscle (funding $$$s might be withheld by the USA) on countries to enact population control policies and laws? Her LGBT agenda was also part of the mix.

  5. Bob Bugiada says:

I’m sorry Bishop Blaire, but climate change is a political issue.
Computer models are the source of these dire global-warming predictions. We all know of “garbage in – garbage out,” but it’s strangely “garbage in – gospel out” in this case. The models are based on temperature readings, but which ones? There’s anecdotal evidence of temperature changes in the past, with a mini ice age in the 18th century, and a flourishing wine industry in England during the middle ages. The Vikings didn’t name it “Greenland” because the island was covered with glaciers. The earth’s climate has always been changing, and it began long before man’s presence on the planet. Sunspots can have a profound effect on our climate, as can volcanic eruptions…

    • JD Cahill says:

As a young boy on a family vacation to the Canadian Rockies in the mid 1950s I saw the base of the Athabasca Glacier. Signs were in the ground pointing out where the tip of the glacier was in ’47, ’48, ’49, ’50, etc. This was way before today’s global warming hysteria. That glacier has probably been receding since the last Ice Age. With less ice mass than centuries ago a glacier today will melt quicker.

  6. Honestly the Church is so wrong on Climate Change and its position so extreme tht it’s frightening.

    1. There is NO global warming aside from possibly 1/2 a degree Centigrade which is by no means certain
    2. I suggest you Google images for ice core samples which clearly prove cyclical nature of climate change which we couldn’t stop if we tried
    3. The EPA rules bypass Congress and have a devastating effect on the poor by raising their energy costs enormously
    4. At some point the Church is going to have to decide if it will continue to honor the faith embodied in Christ or join the Marxist Gaiia cult. Actually it seems it’s already made the latter choice
    5. Finally the Church is speaking through emotion, it knows NOTHING about…

  7. This is the same bishop who publically announced that there was no difference between mortal and venial sin. Since Blaire is quite ignorant in basic Catholic moral theology, it falls to reason that he is also on the wrong page in regards to global warming. The poor and the middle class are going to suffer because of all the coal mine jobs that are lost, as well as the railroads, and all other businesses that benefitted from coal. Ave Maria Purrissima !

  8. Meanwhile, down at the abortion mill. . . .

  9. anne o. nymous says:

Thanks for the reality check, Hymie!

  10. Global Warming, AKA Climate Change, is a political issue brought to us by the so-called progressives, AKA liberals. It is not a religious issue, and this Bishop of Stockton simply is exhibiting his left wing bias which is all to prevalent among US Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals. It is just one more reason why I have lost respect for so many of the Catholic hierarchy.

  11. Yes, Blaire is more concerned with temperatures than he is with murdering innocent babies in the womb. Look at the list of so called religious groups that support this nonsense. The ones that are Catholic, are marginal ones at best; as someone else once wrote, they are Catholics in name only (CINOS). The environment is important, but God created man to use nature to his advantage, so he could love God more. Thousands of people will suffer because of these environmental wackos.

    • FromThePew says:

Yes Lianne, & the poor, the elderly & fixed income seniors, will especially suffer! As everybody in the pews knows from their experiences of trying to make a living, the cost of everything else (fact: it is all transported by truck, train, air or boat) will also increase dramatically due to higher energy & gas prices etc, trickling down to us, the world of consumers. Evidently, our Bishops are more insulated & not directly affected by higher costs to a large extent. (Live more like princes?) Maybe they have lost touch with many of us in the pew struggling to live and make ends meet?

  12. John Feeney says:

Well, they found the major problem in the Catholic Church. It’s not the closing of churches, the closing of Catholic schools, Pedophile priests, Vatican 2, etc.. It’s climate change! Hallelujah!

  13. John Feeney says:

Yes, this is the same Bishop Blaire that advocates gun control. Guns are inanimate objects and are therefore incapable of doing anything. The Catholic Church condemned, as Heresy, blaming inanimate objects for evil over a thousand years ago!

  14. Man-caused global warming is a hoax. Climate change is real as it has always been, but it is folly to believe man is causing it and has the power to stop it as King Canute demonstrated in trying to stop ocean waves from rolling in (See A little humility is in order.

  15. As a former Chief Weather Observer [in the USAF] I find it incredible that the good Bishop has signed on to man made Global Warming, Global Cooling, Climate Change nonsense..whatever they are calling it this week. The Climate has always changed and man has little , if anything to do with it, which should be obvious to anyone who looks at real empirical data…not some computer model. In the words of our pastor from the pulpit during a Sunday homily…. “Man made Climate Change is the greatest hoax, perhaps ever”.

  16. Climate change is a hoax, a means for politicians and crooks to deceive the people and make hoards money to line their own pockets. It is not a moral issue as Bp. Blaire says, it is an immoral issue. Bp. Blaire should have a totally different viewpoint, putting God first, then the salvation of souls before anything else by leading sinners to love, know, and serve (obey) the Lord, not mother earth, the politicians, and the crooks. God help us!

  17. Another sodomite friendly cleric ….

  18. Bishop Blaire should hand in his resignation and go live in the desert. Climate change or whatever you chose to call it is something dreamed up by the Population Control folk. Bishop Blaire needs to examine his conscience and then apologize for his mindless remarks. He is a disgrace to the Catholic Church not only in this matter but many others. God help him and please pray for him.

  19. I find it hard to believe that a lot of people don’t believe we are going through a significant change in our climate. The ice cap is getting thinner and thinner and melting more and quicker each year. Weather in general is very different in many parts of the world than it was fifty years ago. That is observable and the science shows it to be true. The real question is in this instance of change, how much is man, us, contributing to the speed and degree of change. Is man completely responsible for this cycle of change, of course not. But, what can we do to mitigate the speed and degree of change? That is the question.

    • I can’t believe that people actually think (like you Bob One) we can control the weather. There is not an iota of hard evidence Bob One of this so called global warming, only rigged computer models Its a giant scam Bob One by the global elites to take more money from the middle class to fund their globalist fantasies. Hoping for an uprising against these criminals that has never been see before.

    • Your Fellow Catholic says:

Because as we’ve seen, many people still watch Fox News, & still believe people who don’t believe science, economics, psychology, or any other rigorous discipline. They’d jst rather make up their own facts, ignore what’s inconvenient, fill the internet with bluster.

Worse, it’s not enough for folks to disagree about the interpretation of the science. No, they accuse their opponents of being conspirators and hoaxers. They always accuse people rather than attempt assume that people have honest reasons for thinking what they think. Such accusations stand direct opposition to our Catholic faith.

      • No they do not YFC, your ilk and your sodomite lifestyle stands in direct opposition to the Catholic Faith. Climate change is a scam and hoax being pushed by globalist who want to destroy the middle class, end of story

      • Coming from a man who drives around town with an = bumper sticker on his smart car ?

    • St. Christopher says:

“Bob One”: Nope, nope and nope.

      1. The science is not settled on Mankind’s responsibility, if global warming exists.

      2. If there is global warming, the answer is assuredly not giving our money and virtually unlimited power to any elected officials.

      3. Population control, and One World Government, advocates are behind much of the demand for power over people and resources.

I will take my chances with whatever God has in store for Mankind.

  20. Michael McDermott says:

Here is a Moral Issue closer to home:

Keep your child from being sexually indoctrinated
Pull your kids from this ‘LGBT’ indoctrination stunt at government schools on Friday, April 15, 2016

About the ‘LGBT’ sponsored ‘Day of Silence’
The so-called annual “Day of Silence” (DOS), which is sponsored by the “Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network” (GLSEN), takes place in most public schools every April. The next will be on or around Friday, April 15, 2016.

On this day, students participating in the “Day of Silence” will wear pro-homosexuality T-shirts, buttons, and stickers, refuse to answer teachers’ questions in classrooms,…

    • Your Fellow Catholic says:

The Day of Silence, about LGBT issues, for whatever it’s value or unvalue, has nothing to do with the subject of this post, which is CLIMATE CHANGE.

McDermott once again trolls this site, changing every post into one about gays.

  21. Bob One, Don’t worry about climate change, if the sane, reasonable, informed and intelligent people of this world a wrong putting God before this hoax, you will be dead and won’t feel or see a thing by the time it all happens. May the devil not find out your dead until an hour after you stand before God and are judged.

  22. The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule. –H.L. Mencken

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. –H.L. Mencken

  23. These liberation theology, Marxist bishops are destroying the Catholic Church. Christ said, “seek ye first the Kingdom of God”. He did not say not to eat meat because of the cows breaking wind; nor did Our Lord tell people not to heat, warm or cook their food because the stove fires would cause smog. Until the bishops teach the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, the faithful will continually be led astray until they ultimately leave the Church for good.

  24. Michael, You got it right man. Isn’t it amaizing how far the devil has come to deceive the many, and poisoning our youth. Many of the stupid parents either accept it, couldn’t care less, or aren’t even aware what sinisterism lurks behind them and their children.

  25. Is anyone surprised what this bishop does? He ruined Alemany High School, and now he is destroying the faith in Stockton. Bishop Montrose was a hero, but the present bishop wants to remake Catholicism in his own image.

  26. Father Karl says:

A bishop is supposed to be three things: a priest, a prophet, and a king. These may seem like antiquated terms, but, a priest is one who offers sacrifice; a prophet is one who proclaims the Gospel and guides the people with solid faith based homilies; and finally, a king is one who reigns and governs over his people, and does this by being a kind and faithful steward over those under him. Unfortunately, too many bishops today possess none of these attributes and instead want to destroy the Mystical Body of Christ.

    • FromThePew says:

Fr Karl, Why are so many Bishops irresponsible to their core duties? Why do so many of them look outside that circle of duties to distract themselves with issues not as important as ‘Saving Souls’? For this to occur with such frequency, isn’t something very wrong with the Bishop selection process?? Not including ‘bad judgements’ made in regards to scandals, why do Bishops want to be involved in ANYTHING else beside their duty to the Church? Why is their sense of stewardship so undeveloped & yet the title is given to these men? Who is responsible for ignoring their lack of core attributes? It’s not us in the pews.

  27. JD Cahill says:

Bernie Sanders was invited by the Vatican to come to Rome to speak to their economic/climate change conference. Sanders chartered a 767 jet to carry his family, staff & secret service (maybe 40 people). This jet can carry 200+ people. The carbon footprint for this trip was huge, tons & tons of pollution! Maybe Bishop Blaire should discuss this lack of ‘love for the earth’ with Pope Francis. Who paid for the cost of this trip?

  28. The answer From the Pew is the lack of sanctifying grace, if they have any at all.
