Archbishop Gomez calls on Congress to pass Dream Act

“We are talking about people who have grown up in this country since they were young children. America is all they know”

Too many young people are threatened with deportation because their parents brought them to the U.S. without documentation, and Congress needs to pass the Dream Act to help them, Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles has said. The proposed legislation “would permanently lift the threat of deportation that right now hangs over the heads of more than one million young people who … [Read more...]

Could a California bill make Catholic conduct codes illegal?

AB 569, pushed by pro-abortion groups like NARAL, would prohibit employers from requiring codes of conduct that interfere with 'reproductive health care' choices

Pro-abortion groups are lobbying for a California law that Catholic leaders warn would open employers like Catholic schools to lawsuits for asking teachers to follow their codes of conduct. “The bill unmistakably targets religious organization employers in the state, and goes further, inviting expensive litigation that could take years to sort out,” the California Catholic … [Read more...]

Christians didn’t start the war on religious liberty

Lawmakers provided funds for abortion and to pay for the physician-assisted suicide of Medi-Cal patients at the same time they sought to help immigrants, assist the “working poor” and expand early childhood education

California’s Legislature this week approved a new $183 billion dollar State Budget and in the process established priorities that encompass “profound moral questions about who are we as a society, how we view our future and whether as a people we can look beyond our own self-interest to the interest of the larger society.” (In Search of the Common Good)  Lawmakers provided … [Read more...]

Study: Clergy’s denomination correlates strongly with political affiliation

Your rabbi? Probably a Democrat. Your Baptist pastor? Probably a Republican. Your priest? Who Knows.

America’s pastors – the men and women a majority of Americans look to for help in finding meaning and purpose in their lives – are even more politically divided than the rest of us, according to a new data set representing the largest compilation of American religious leaders ever assembled. Like their congregants, religious leaders have sharply divided themselves along … [Read more...]
