“You’re an ignorant bigot!”

The following comes from a May 27 post on LifeSite News.

A California Democrat screamed at a law professor who opposes opening public school restrooms and showers to members of the opposite sex, shouting “You’re an ignorant bigot!”

Rep. Zoe Lofgren began by reading a statement submitted by U.S. Civil Rights Commissioner Gail Heriot, who is also a professor at the University of San Diego School of Law.

Commissioner Heriot testified before the committee that an individual’s sex is determined by observable biological reality, rather than subjective feelings.

She told the House Judiciary Committee’s Task Force on Executive Overreach:

If I believe that I am a Russian princess, that doesn’t make me a Russian princess, even if my friends and acquaintances are willing to indulge my fantasy. Nor am I a Great Horned Owl just because – as I have been told – I happen to share some personality traits with those feathered creatures.

The rest of Commissioner Heriot’s written testimony, which quoted philosopher John Locke, traced the legal history of the civil rights statute and found it legally inapplicable in this situation.

Lofgren called the comment “offensive” and said, “I think it’s very regrettable that that comment was put in the record.”

When Heriot tried to reply – saying that the Obama administration’s controversial transgender federal guidance is “offensive” – Lofgren shouted her down.

“I think you’re a bigot, Lady! I think you’re an ignorant bigot! I think you’re an ignorant bigot – and, and….” Lofgren said until she was interrupted by a colleague.

Rep. Steve King, who chaired the hearing, warned Lofgren, “You’ll not be recognized to do that.”

Heriot’s Written Testimony is Articulate and Factual and deserves reading instead of denouncing by the Thought Police.

One might ask why schools, colleges, and universities pay any attention to OCR. The answer, of course, is they do it for the money.

Even reducing agency budgets, however, will likely be not enough. Professor Michael Rappaport has written that the root of the problem at OCR may be the large sums of money at stake for each institution.
I quote his suggestion in full:

Bless you, Michael McDermott! I always appreciate your wonderful posts! This terrible “Zoe” is a DISGRACE!! She should be in a mental hospital!

      • Michael McDermott says:

Thanks Linda Maria – If you know anyone hiring writers I am looking to be able to do more with it.
But your thanks, and Blessing, is a Blessing.

Peace be with you Linda Maria

I was always taught that if you have to scream your opinion at another, it suggests that you are not completely convinced of it yourself. Genuine adults, possessed of mature self-confidence, can assert their views (and hear others) with dignity.

  3. John Feeney says:

Representative Zoe Lofgren sounds like a project for a mental health professional!

  4. Bob One says:

We have become so PC, overly PC really, that the liberal side does not allow for discussion of anything with which they disagree. They use to accuse the conservatives of the same thing. The first amendment means nothing anymore. Is it any wonder the country is in disarray. Our basic values are no longer acceptable to too many people.

  5. John Patrick says:

Just like the North Korean communists, the Congresswoman cannot brook any opposition to the party line.

  6. Leftism is a mental disorder. Congressman Lofrgen is exhibit A.

Only a lunatic would buy into the aggressive push for eradicating biological male/female sexual differentiation from a correct understanding of human nature, and there are a lot of lunatics on the left.

  7. JD Cahill says:

Next to the definition of ‘intolerant bigot’ in my dictionary is a picture of Zoe!

  8. The only ignorant bigot is the Democratic representative who can’t convince people with a reasoned argument so she resorts to screaming which show everyone that she lost the argument anyway. Be not afraid and defend the faith no matter what comes your way. Remember in God we trust. Pray, Pray, Pray!

  9. On display again… the logic of the left… anything and everything is acceptable… except the truth…

  10. Zoe, the devil’s advocate! She needs an exorcist! God help her! And they let the mentally/spiritually insane proceed and continue to draw paychecks for the California State Tax Payers. What foolish district ever elected her?

  11. Anne T. says:

Someone should put this women in a locker room with a stark naked strange man and see has she likes. These crazy politicians who make such insane laws for the rest of us never have to live with them. I am sure she has her own private locked bathroom and place to change her clothes, along with a gun for protection, but she says to hell with the rest of us. Please someone take her away with a butterfly net.

    • Anne ~ I suspect both of us have from time to to time been in a locker room with a male-to-female transgender person and didn’t know it. These Southern states “bathroom bills” mandate that will result in female-to-male transgender people being FORCED to use our locker rooms etc. I can just imagine one of them coming in saying something like :”Excuse me ladies, I really want to use the men’s side but if I do, I’ll get arrested.”

      • Anne T. says:

C&H, I have never been in a locker room with a man who still has male private parts and undressed in front of him. I would NOT do that. One cannot know whether they are transgender or not, whether they are lying or telling the truth, and that is what this all about — endangering women and children. I probably have been in a woman’s restroom with such a person, but allowing just any man to come into women’s restrooms endangers women and children.

I closed my Target account of over fifteen years.

        • Your Fellow Catholic says:

Anne T., part of the point here is that some transgender men have had surgery but they would still be required to use your restroom under these bathroom bills. Some transgender men have not had surgery, but they still might have a beard and dress as men, yet these bills require them to use your restroom. By all appearances, they would probably appear to you as a man. I just have a hard time believing you want that, but maybe you just haven’t thought it through.

        • Anne T. says:

Target was not talking about locked, one stall restrooms. No one I know cares who goes into a one stall locked restroom out of NECESSITY, even if they go into the opposite sex one, unless they are using it improperly or vandalizing. Most, or all, of us have done that at times. They were talking about the multiple stall restrooms that have dividers that do not come down to the floor. Such restrooms are convenient for women, but have been misused by men taking pictures and worse..

        • Anne…I don’t think there is a solution to this that won’t make somebody uncomfortable. An outbreak of men, dressed as women going into ladies rooms to attack women is a myth. In the ladies room at Target you’ll probably never know the nicely dressed lady who goes into a stall is transgender, but in North Carolina when bearded , balding, bulked up “Jethro” comes in, you might be freaked out. I know I would be. There may be a problem here, but the “Bathroom Laws” aren’t the solution.

          • Anne T. says:

There has already been an arrest of a known sex offender at a mall on Pruneyard in Santa Clara Valley who was hanging around the ladies room. Not a myth, just fact.

          • Your Fellow Catholic says:

But sex offenders have been hanging around bathrooms ever since indoor plumbing. The laws allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice does nothing to change that, and laws prohibiting trans people from using the bathroom of their choice doesn’t change that. It would be like prohibiting people with hats from entering a bank because we are afraid of bank robbers.

          • The solution to all of this is not to mutilate your body in a futile, misguided, foolish, evil, mentally ill effort to make it appear that you are the opposite sex that you are. Treat gender dysphoria as a mental illness, which it is, outlaw so-called “sex change” (bodily mutilation) operations intended to alter primary sexual characteristics as well as hormone therapy intended to alter secondary sexual characteristics. Counsel the mentally ill to accept their sex. Problem solved.

  12. Lofgren is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law, which has showered her with awards for years and recognized her as “devoted to the highest ideals of the profession.” Actually, she’s a better example of an anti-Catholic bigot groomed by the sick left wing perverted philosophies of modern Jesuit education. But it makes sense that the school would honor her, because she reflects its values.

  13. St. Christopher says:

An elected legislator is supposed to display humility and an ardent desire to maintain the public trust. Ms. Lofgren is completely out of line here. She has no authority to label anyone. In fact, her demeanor suggests an inability to exercise her function in the legislature. Wait, wait. . . Lofgren is little more than an apologist for the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, pro-sexual anything crowd; her cries of disagreement can quickly turn into cries of accusation and condemnation, once the law is changed to permit wingnuts like her to put more bite into their prejudices. The Nazis had legislators, too, and lots of laws, lawyers, and judges. The Gulag seems not too far away.

    • An elected EXECUTIVE r is supposed to display humility and an ardent desire to maintain the public trust. MR TRUMP is completely out of line here.

  14. Avoid her like the plague and do not re-elect her. Please do not re-elect her! There are millions who would be a better representative of the people, for the people, and by the people.

  15. I thought it too easy, yet here I sit, waiting for a Zoloft(gren) joke, but no one took the bait (Feeney, you came close). You guys are way too nice.

Prozac in place of the Ritalin in her Espresso might do wonders. On second thought, go Decaf–works for me.

  16. Anne T. says:

Hymie, the truth is that at least one California senator has a grandson who thinks he is a girl, and because of politicians like that, the rest of us have to suffer through these nutty laws.. I won’t name him, but most Democrats know who he is, and many of them are not happy with the situation either, but many are too afraid to say so.

    • Anne T. says:

I would not have written that, but he has already labeled his own grandson, and I think it is just plain wrong. Enough said.

  18. Well played, Professor (and Russian princess) Gail Heriot. Didn’t think USD or the USCCR had it in them.

Professor (and pronking Springbok) Walter Williams has an even funnier take on this nonsense:
