Jun 1 @ 2:30 am – 5:00 am

“Igniting Hope” Saturday May 31, 730 PM.  A very special evening in Petaluma to benefit Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Renee Bondi, a nationally-known Catholic-Christian recording artist, speaker and author (www.reneebondi.com) will be making a very rare Northern California appearance in Petaluma on Saturday evening May 31, 730 PM at Lucchesi Petaluma Community Center. Paralyzed herself at age 29, Renee has turned her tragic accident into a personal ministry that delivers a powerful message of faith, courage, perseverance, and hope through her words and singing.  She has appeared at national Catholic and Christian youth and adult conferences and on EWTN, “Hour Of Power,” and other faith-based television and radio shows.  Her message is universal and great for adults, teens, young adults and families.  Musical guests include Streets Of Rome, a Petaluma-based singer-songwriter band, and Nancy Brown, a Petaluma youth/music minister at St James Catholic parish.

Suggested donation for tickets is $20.  Tickets available in advance online or at the door. Proceeds benefit Paralyzed Veterans of America programs in the Bay Area. Saturday, May 31, 2014, 7:30 pm,  Lucchesi Petaluma Community Center. Garden Grove – Knights and Friends of The Poor – Help Nigeria Fundraiser @ Christ Cathedral
Aug 29 all-day

Friends of the Poor has invited two Bishops from Nigeria in an effort to raise resources to help them deal with the thousands of misplaced families, orphaned children, and others who are fleeing from the terror and violence of Boko Haram.  Bishops Anthony Adaju and Martin Uzoukwu will be our honored guests.  We are hosting a fundraiser at Christ’s Cathedral on August 29.  We would be most grateful if you would attend and/or promote it. Even if you cannot attend we could use auction items or other financial support. For more information about Friends of the Poor go to the website: http://www.friendsofthepoor-nigeria.com/

The Dave Stephens Band (who used to play at the Crystal Cathedral –now Christ’s Cathedral) will provide music.

The French Gourmet is providing a surf and turf dinner.

Most importantly the two Bishops from Nigeria will describe the needs of our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Nigeria.

Our brother and sister Christians in Nigeria need help.  They are being killed and displaced because of their faith.  The governments of Nigeria and the United States have not been assisting.  The Bishops in Nigeria desperately need money to help alleviate the problems.  Friends of the Poor work only with the Catholic Dioceses.  There is no chance of money dissipating or government graft as the money will be spent directly in Nigeria by Friends of the Poor and/or the Bishops in Nigeria.

Six point project needed for Nigeria:
1)         Rehabilitation-We need to rehabilitate the women and children who have been held captive by Boko Haram. Thousands have been rescued by the Nigerian Military but they have no place to go as their homes and farms have been burned to the ground.

2)          Reconnect- Help is needed in reconnecting survivors with their families. Most adult men were killed by the Boko Haram so that they were unhindered as they destroyed the villages and took the women and young girls to be their wives and servants. The young boys were forced into the military.

3)         Capital- Money is needed to provide for the immediate needs of food, clean water and shelter. Inflation is rampant. The cost of food and building supplies is out of sight. Father Chiedozie, Bishop Martin’s right hand man, said “Only the rich can eat.”

4)         Medical-Medical services are needed to address the ongoing medical concerns of the people that were affected by their captivity. Starvation and disease such as cholera and malaria took many lives after capture. Women were expected to find their own food and water in order to feed themselves and their children. Many died from lack of food and dirty water.

5)         Rebuilding-Help is needed to rebuild the Homes, farms, and villages that were destroyed by the Boko Haram. After rehabilitation, they face going back to their villages which have been completely destroyed including their farms and livestock.

6)         Economic redevelopment- Providing seed and livestock so that they can develop a steady source of food for themselves and to sell in the market. Developing small business opportunities (sewing machines and capitol to open small shops) This will give them an income and will allow the community to flourish economically.
It is impossible for these women and children to rebuild their lives and villages without outside help. Our help is necessary for the recovery on the way to a new and different life.

Simi Valley – 8th Annual Simi Valley Dream Cuisine @ St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church
Oct 8 @ 5:00 pm – 9:30 pm

Fr. Joe Shea and St. Rose of Lima in Simi Valley invite you to the 8th Annual Simi Valley Dream Cuisine on Sunday October 8th at 5:00PM. Enjoy gourmet foods, fine wines, local craft breweries and desserts. This year our honorees are internationally-renowned speaker Kerri Caviezel and her husband, motion picture and television star Jim Caviezel. Kerri Caviezel has devoted her life to working with youth. About 17 years ago, Kerri started counseling at the Pregnancy Counseling Center in Mission Hills, California. With her teaching experience, speaking on issues concerning the Sanctity of Life became a natural outgrowth to spread a message of help, hope, and truth. The Dream Cuisine will be making a donation in her name to the Pregnancy Counseling Center in her name.  Included in your ticket is some great live entertainment. During dinner we have Vaughn Suponatime in a Frank Sinatra tribute show.  As a younger Frank Sinatra look alike and a natural Sinatra sound alike, Vaughn’s celebrity tribute show spans the musical career of “The Chairman of the board” from the Big Band days through the Rat Pack nights and beyond. After dinner we have concert with Ronny and the Classics, where you can dance the night away to all your favorite oldies from the 50’s through 80’s.  There also is a wonderful silent auction and opportunity drawing with a grand prize of $10,000! Tickets are only $65.00 or you can have a private table of 10 for $650. Purchase your tickets now for this all-inclusive wine and food festival at www.svdream.com or by calling Rick Ostrich at 805-490-8529.  This is a tremendous value for such a wonderful event. Come on out, have a good time and help us raise some money for those most in need!

The event will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 1305 Royal Ave. in Simi Valley.

Special Guest Speaker, Darlene Pawlik

Human Trafficking Survivor

darlene pawlik 1

“I had the pleasure of interviewing Darlene Pawlik.  With her poignant, personal story of being conceived in rape and having become pregnant by rape, she is able to cut through all of the political rhetoric and not only presents a defense of those Jesus would call ‘the least of these,’ but also shares a message of redemption in Christ.  I am pleased to endorse Darlene Pawlik…”
