ACTS: THE SPREAD of the KINGDOM

Ana Ramirez-Palmer

Saturday, Feb. 10, Feb., 24

10:00 – Noon

The book of Acts shows the Church, enlivened by the Holy Spirit, teaching, preaching, healing, and restoring outcasts in the same way that Jesus did on earth.

The Acts of the Apostles provides an historic framework for understanding the rest of the New Testament. Paul’s letters in particular come alive in a new way when they are read within the context of the Acts narrative.

See how the Gospel witness spread outward in waves, from Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria, and finally to the ends of the earth.

Share with the early Christians the joys and struggles of living the life of Christ, and learn how these apply to us today.

See how the Holy Spirit guided the apostles into Truth.

Observe the way the Spirit-filled Church adapted to new cultures when proclaiming the Gospel.

Watch the seeds of Church structure and authority take root,  and see how conflicts were resolved even at that early stage.

See your place in Christ’s Church, and how you should live day-to-day as a disciple of Christ.

2018 Alemany Awardee Greg Suhr, 42nd Chief of Police of San Francisco

Please join us in honoring the extraordinary efforts made by Greg Suhr in his lifetime and especially as the Chief of Police in San Francisco. He served the people of San Francisco for 35 years with compassion and dedication. His positive impact on the communities in the area has largely been due to the partnerships he formed and the trust he earned from everyone he worked with – in the office and on the streets. His real passion has always been working with the youth and opening a path to success particularly for the most marginalized. Read more.

At DSPT our classrooms are filled with Dominicans and religious from other orders as well as lay men and women. The education we provide fundamentally integrates philosophy and theology so that our students will be equipped to bring the Good News to the culture today.

The Alemany Awards Benefit Gala is the principal annual fundraising event of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology (DSPT), a member school of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU). At this special event we honor men and women for their lives of Christian service while raising money to support DSPT and our mission to prepare men and women for academic and apostolic vocations. See a list of past Alemany Awardees.

The Alemany Award is named after San Francisco’s first Archbishop – Joseph Sadoc Alemany, a Spanish Dominican missionary whose life and work had a tremendous impact on the Church and society. Among many other notable works, Alemany helped to found the Western Dominican Province, of which DSPT is an apostolate.
