Exorcist disturbed by new California law

The following comes from an October 30 Christian Review article by Peter LaFave:

They’ve witnessed the stuff of Hollywood-horror variety, including levitation. They’ve trained under a master exorcist in Rome, and have counseled hundreds of individuals suffering demonic influence. They’re humble, they acknowledge personified evil, but are never afraid, because Christ’s sacrifice has already conquered evil.

While recent popes have reemphasized the importance of exorcism, it is often misunderstood both within the Church and in the secular world. To provide insight into this vital ministry, I’ve recently had the opportunity to speak with two of America’s most experienced exorcists:

Father Vince Lampert is the exorcist for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. He has ten years of experience in dealing with the demonic, and has lectured extensively on the topic, drawing from his expertise and experience.

Father Gary Thomas is the exorcist for the Diocese of San Jose, California. His 2005 apprenticeship in Rome was the basis for the 2011 thriller, The Rite, starring Anthony Hopkins.

There are many in the United States today (even Hierarchy in the Catholic Church) who are skeptical about the existence of demons and the ministry of exorcism. As highly trained and experienced exorcists, what do you say to this?

Father Lampert: Many people within and outside of the Church view the practice of exorcism as outdated. Yet Scripture contains many accounts of a clash between the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. The name “Jesus” means “God saves.” If we deny the reality of evil then we deny the need for Christ to be our Savior.

Have attitudes in the Church shifted in recent years?

Father Thomas: There are many Catholics who do not believe in personified evil, i.e. Satan and the demonic realm. In the post-Vatican II Church, the definition of sin became obtuse and the concept of personified evil became vague in many areas of the Church, including Seminaries, where eschatology or its related subjects were no longer emphasized.
However, I do believe that there has been a shift in recent years, of more priests believing in personified evil. Since 2011, the U.S. Catholic Church has quintupled the number of known exorcists, largely because bishops are receiving so many requests for investigations into demonic activity.

Is demonic activity on the rise?

Father Lampert: Yes, though the increase in demonic activity is not merely because the Devil has “upped his game,” but also because more people are willing to play his game today, through activities that are opening up doorways to evil in their lives.

Can demons read our thoughts?

Father Lampert: Demons do not know what we are thinking. They are intelligent creatures who can use their reason to deduce what we might be thinking or how we might act. God alone knows a person’s mind.

What brings about demonic involvement? What should be avoided?

Father Thomas: Ouija boards, dark magic, séances, violent video games, the Charley Challenge, tarot cards, any devices that can muster some kind of spirit in any way that circumvents God.

Father Lampert: People may think these things are just fun and entertaining but the truth is they are dabbling with evil and can get themselves into trouble.

Father Thomas: Pornography and drugs can also be open doorways to the demonic, especially certain drugs such as meth and cocaine. In some cases, curses can be placed on these in order to make them even more addictive.

You mentioned earlier that the decline in morality of society accompanies an increase in demonic activity. In today’s society what are the key indicators of this? For instance, is there something diabolical about abortion?

Father Thomas: Abortion is a doorway to the demonic because it involves the destruction of an innocent human being. The new law in California which legalizes assisted suicide is also a doorway for the same reason. This decline in morality is growing rapidly and provides the opportunity for Satan to have a foothold in a family’s life. I do not believe that most people who are believers in “choice” realize this. That is part of the seduction of Satan who will disguise his presence in these choices.

Father Lampert: Anything that attacks human life has to be viewed as evil, for the human person is created in the image and likeness of God. With that said one must always distinguish between evil as an action of our own free will and evil that is the result of demonic activity.

In closing, what is the best defense against the forces of evil?
Father Thomas: There are four ordinary means of protection against the Evil One: a prayer life, a faith life, a moral life, and a sacramental life. Do those and you will build up the armor of Faith against the forces of Hell.
Father Lampert: The best defense against evil is for us to devote ourselves to the things of God and to think about the positive aspects of life. “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things” [Philippians 4:8].

      In reply to the post of Pat– I have read of cases in which a depressed person, with serious life problems, may have felt persuaded, by the Devil and his demons, to suddenly think of killing themselves, or killing others!! I wonder how often that has actually occurred?? There is a good book written by C.S. Lewis, “The Screwtape Letters,” about how the Devil and his legions try to persuade souls to do evil.

    Plain-speaking priests speaking the truth! How sadly rare they are among California priests nowadays. We have the aggressive older US-born progressives and the young orthodox foreign-born priests who are intimidated by the California culture and rarely speak out openly. I suppose that if one fights Satan directly then a little pushback from teed-off parishioners is pretty small in the scheme of things!

    Many people today, do not realize, that all faithful Christians face a lifelong battle against the Devil and his legions, just like the Saints! Our Lady can help us in our spiritual warfare, by the practice of the virtue of Purity, and daily Rosary! Also of course, all Christians have spiritual weapons available, against the Devil, by the practice of prayer, fasting, non-attachment to the world, and the flesh, and many religious devotions, including Adoration. One must also frequently and correctly receive the Sacraments! And seek to lead a life of Christ-like virtue, with God’s help! Our Lady of Fatima said that sins of the flesh send more souls to Hell than any other, which is tragic!

    People of today, need to realize, that this life is given to us by God, out of His deep love for us, as a pilgrimage towards sanctification, and Heaven– Paradise!! How beautiful!! For those interested to seek Christ and lead a holy life— the Devil eventually loses all interest, because the Devil is ignorant, and only loves sin, disorder, confusion, darkness, filth, egoism, deceits, lies, self-destruction, and death!! The Devil cannot stay long, in a place of HOLINESS, nor in the life of a person who is a good, practicing Catholic, seeking inner holiness, where Christ may dwell!!

    We have many Sacramentals of the Church which can help protect a person from Evil. But it is highly important, for a good Catholic to faithfully follow Christ– and flatly reject the liberal crackpots, especially pseudo-intellectuals who think they are so “enlightened,” as modern leaders in the Church and in society! Only Christ can lead us safely through this dark and dangerous, ignorant, sinful, deceitful world, to our goal, in this life– HEAVEN!!– and no other!!

            That is very kind of you, but as far as “being knowledgeable”, like all of us (I hope), “we walk by faith, not by sight,” (2 Cor 5:7).

            I think we all need to be alert to the increasing reach of Satan in this godless age, and yet, as Fr. Gabriel Amorth said in an interview in the 90’s, what Satan told him in an exchange once, Satan’s ways are so old. Amorth accused the Devil of using “the same old tricks over and over: sex, wealth, pride.” “Don’t you ever change?” Amorth demanded. Satan laughed: “But I use them BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS WORK!”

    Fr. Thomas, who I actually had the occasion to have met some time ago, is a good and dedicated priest in the official present Church—although his job is a very tough one, being in the middle, combatting the continuing rise of Satan’s powers, and, on the other hand, a mostly yawning chancery and its indolent leadership, who have doubts about the actual objective truth of the Gospels.

    A greatest matter of concern however is if he is still using the “New Rite” of exorcism, which is doubtfully effective in the most serious cases (as compared with the powerful and commanding Rituale Romanum, the prayers of which date back to Alcuin and the 800’s).

        Also noteworthy — both priests’ comments on Yoga: In particular, Fr. Thomas lays it on the line, as I expect he would:

        “When someone doing yoga acknowledges and calls upon spirits or energies attached to certain exercises, this creates serious problems.           Steve Phoenix, I did read the whole article! That incident you mentioned, is something straight out of a Halloween movie!! Very EERIE!! The exorcist priest advised the people who bought the weird fairy statue in the New Age store, to throw it out– and when they did so, it shattered, revealing a headless priest, with his hands on an altar! Oh, that is just AWFUL!

            I also thought the hidden, cursed image that Fr. Thomas discovered—a headless priest with hands glued to an altar (cv. interview)—relates to the prophecy of Our Lord to St. Peter (“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you like wheat: but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31)

            It is prophetic, for any priest that attempts to become an alter-Christus: he will be sifted like wheat. It is also prophetic for any Catholic: the principal means of Satanic accursedness is to pervert the Mass, however it may possible that “he” may do so. .

            And (referring to the Satanic image that Fr. Thomas mentions in the interview), it is always the purpose of Satan, as we know, to pervert and invert, the Mass (hence, the “Black Mass”, such as the push to have them performed openly, such as in Oklahoma City last year (Sept., 2014), or one nearly performed with great publicity at Harvard University in May, 2014. Invert/pervert the priesthood, invert/pervert the Mass, invert/pervert the Sacraments. It all fits together with the preparation for the coming of the Man of Sin (2 Thess. 2:3).

    The Church has always warned everyone never to turn to the occult, either out of curiosity, or in search of answers to serious problems in life. It is also a mortal sin, to do so! Instead– go to God in deep, constant prayer! Go to Christ, to His Blessed Mother, and to Mass and the Sacraments! Say the Rosary, make a Novena, make a Lourdes pilgrimage, and have faith!     I saw a video about satanic rosaries. I found one in my desk–have no idea where it came from.

    Then I looked in a drawer at our church where there are many hand made and other rosaries. Legion of Mary makes the hand made ones, others seem to have been given to the church when people don’t know what to do with them and don’t want to throw them away. Among these were two more. These rosaries are cheaply made plastic with a serpent climbing the cross behind Chirist. Each of the four ends of the cross are shaped like a diabolical head with horns. There is no INRI on the cross.

    The last newsletter of the late Fr. Nicholas Gruner spoke of his interview at that time (in early 2015) with Fr. Gabriel Amorth at Fr. Amorth’s office at La Scala Santa in Rome. According to Fr. Gruner,

    “…Fr. Amorth told me that we have but a short time left before the chastisements predicted by Our Lady of Fatima begin to rip our world apart in ways we can hardly imagine. How long? Less than 8 months.

    “Fr. Amorth told me that unless the consecration of Russia is performed – as our Lady asked – by the end of October, 2015, the dark prophecies of Fatima may well come to pass any day after that.”

    At that time in early 2015, the idea of a multi-million man mass Islamic invasion of the west was only a surreal nightmare…

      The forces of darkness are gathering and the time, the century of patience by Our Lord, is about up. Just as Sr. Lucy related that Our Lady told her at Rianjo in 1930 that the King of France would dedicate France after a century of mercy (from the time of the promise of the Sacred Heart to S. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1689), but it “would be too late”, it appears that time of conversion of Fatima has about run out.

        As noted, the late servant of God, Sr. Lucia, the last seer of Fatima, at least once referred to the century of opportunity for prayer, atonement and conversion afforded to France and the King, after the apparition of the Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (17 Jun 1689, where Jesus’ heart is offered in atonement for sin).
        One hundred years later, to the day, on 6/17/1789, the Paris “Communes” eliminated Louis XVI’s powers (including his titular leadership of the Catholic Church) and soon the executions began, starting with the storming of the Bastille one month later (7/14/1789).

          The Third Secret commences with, “In Portugal, the dogma of the Faith will always be preserved…” The logical inference is that in much of the world, what is left of the Faith will be purged and and also inferable is that those other nations will be destroyed (based on the 2nd part of the secret, that ..”God … is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father. )

            The Pope continued: “Many wish to know simply from curiosity and a taste for the sensational, but they forget that knowledge also implies responsibility. They only seek the satisfaction of their curiosity, and that is dangerous if at the same time they are not disposed to do something, and if they are convinced that it is impossible to do anything against evil.”

            At this point the Pope grasped a Rosary and said: “Here is the remedy against this evil. Pray, pray, and ask for nothing more. Leave everything else to the Mother of God.” (Fulda conference 1980)

            “The Holy Father was then asked: “What is going to happen to the Church?”

            He (JP II) answered: “We must prepare ourselves to suffer great trials before long, such as will demand of us a disposition to give up even life, and a total dedication to Christ and for Christ. With your and my prayer it is possible to mitigate this tribulation, but it is no longer possible to avert it, because only thus can the Church be effectively renewed. How many times has the renewal of the Church sprung from blood! This time, too, it will not be otherwise. We must be strong and prepared, and trust in Christ and His Mother, and be very, very assiduous in praying the Rosary.”

          • It is important when relaying private revelations never to add or subtract anything from them.
            I have read much of Sr. Lucia, but not all. I never came across anything like what you are claiming regarding the century.
            What is your source?

    I don’t mention any of these comments to panic anyone: but to awaken anyone who will hear it to the many words of warning we have received. After all, it isn’t just anyone, least of all myself who said the following at Fulda, Germany in 1980:

    “With your and my prayer it is possible to mitigate this tribulation, but it is no longer possible to avert it, because only thus can the Church be effectively renewed.”

    I hope anyone reading this will re-motivate themselves, because “it is no longer possible to avert” the tribulation (JP II), but we can reduce or mitigate its coming effects.

    One of the mysterious Anonymous clan (Nov 7th 2015) sagaciously advises re. Sr. Lucia and her interview regarding what occurred to her at Rianjo, Spain (actually in 1931) that one must “never add or subtract anything from them”; but also reveals his motivation unwittingly (“I never came across anything like what you are claiming regarding ‘the century’. What is your source?”).

    Now I usually ignore Anonymous posters — anyone who wont even select a screen name, after all…; I used to post all my well-researched sources, only to go to the next step of their level of personal denial, which is really what underlies this. (Now, Anonymous-clan will deny this of course..)

    There are over 200 volumes of 1st-hand primary source testimony; there are almost as many regarding Sr. Lucia’s interviews (required under obedience, up until 1959). The cited account is well-documented in primary sources which Anonymous-clan could obtain and read, if he really wanted to know the truth.

If you have never heard about this, then admit you are really ignorant, but still latently and permanently skeptical, and so I don’t know where to begin, after all. Why don’t you go out to find out the truth, since like Herod, you would only insist on the performance of some miracle in your scrutinizing presence, and it would be a waste of our time.
